Couple Who Forced 19 Kids to Beg On Streets, Sell Herbal Gels & Calendar Finally Brought To Justice

Child labour is not a comment sight in Singapore, but it is prevalent globally.

Another case made headlines yesterday where 19 children and teenagers were forced to beg in Malaysia.

Yes, not one but 19!

What happened

Muslim Ab Karim, 67, and Zaleha Mohamad, 55 forced the said children and teenagers to beg since 2016, Channel NewsAsia reported

WHY ARE THEY EVEN SMILING!?!

The couple both had jobs! They were the chairman and treasurer of Amal Bestari Training Centre, located in Yan, Kedah.

So I can’t fathom why they used young kids to make money, not to say that it would have been right if they were jobless.

They were jointly charged with “having the intention to exploit seven boys and 12 girls—aged between 11 and 17—forcing them to become beggars and sell herbal gel and calendars”.

There is a special place in hell for these kind people.

I have no idea how they even recruited the kids but the article mentioned that the crimes were allegedly committed in areas such as the CIMB Bank and Maybank branches in Taiping, the CIMB Bank in Raub, Pahang, the Bank Islam in Kota Bharu, Kelangan and the Kemaman Kopitiam in Kuantan Pahang.

Wah, this couple really never give chance.

Luckily, they were detained on 7 May 2017.

They were prosecuted to the full extent of the law

The Sessions Court sentenced them to 15 months in prison and fined RM28,000 which is about S$9,500 as they pleaded guilty to 28 counts of exploiting the said children and teenagers.

If they can’t cough up the fine, they will have to serve one month’s jail on each count and they will be serving 100 hours of community service.

Judge Murtazadi Amran mentioned that the sentences were “meted out” on the couple so it will inform other offenders that the court would not think twice to impose a “more deterrent sentence”.

Hopefully the kids get the help that they need.
