If there’s one thing Singaporeans enjoy doing, besides guzzling bubble tea and queuing for things we don’t need, it’s eating out with friends and family.
That’s why a huge sigh of relief could be heard all over the country when the authorities announced that fully vaccinated individuals will be able to dine out in groups of up to five at selected coffee shops and hawker centres from Tuesday (23 Nov).
In addition, people can also gather in groups of five, and restrictions in wedding receptions and marriage solemnisations have been eased as well.
Now that we have what we want, some people naturally want more. Well, if you’re one of those people, you’ll have to wait for at least another month.
Next Series of Easing COVID-19 Restrictions Could Occur Around End-Dec
If you have been paying attention to the way the authorities have handled the COVID-19 situation, they tend to lift COVID-19 curbs progressively, one by one.
This is why the authorities have only eased certain measures, despite the calls for restrictions at workplaces and attractions, for example, to be relaxed as well.
Finance Minister Lawerence Wong said it’s unlikely that restrictions will be eased further next month, but that if they do, they will likely happen around the end of Dec.
“We will monitor the situation over the next few weeks, and if the overall situation remains stable, our healthcare system remains stable, we can consider the next series of moves, say, around the end of December,” he said.
Despite permitting people to gather in groups of five now, Mr Wong urged caution with regard to social interactions, saying the government cannot rule out yet another “further tapping of the brakes” as a last resort.
