When your car is overturned from an accident, the first thing you should do is… flee?

That seemed to have been the thought process of this young couple, who crawled out of their wrecked car and fled the crash scene, not sparing the taxi another glance.

Here’s what happened.

Yellow Car Collided with ComfortDelGro Taxi

The accident happened at 5:40 pm on 26 February at the intersection outside Block 350, Ang Mo Kio Street 32.

At the entrance and exit of the HDB parking lot, a yellow car collided with a ComfortDelGro taxi, leading the vehicle to be overturned.

Mr Zhu, the owner of a nearby western restaurant, said that he saw the taxi driving in from the other side of the road when it collided with the yellow car leaving the parking lot.

Couple Crawls Out of Car, Flees the Scene

A young couple who looked to be in their 20s climbed out of their overturned car and fled. The many pedestrians watching the scene said the couple seemed injured, albeit not seriously.

Meanwhile, the taxi driver and his 79-year-old mother were injured and sent to the hospital.

Both Cars Wrecked

Pictures show the yellow car overturned, with the doors on both sides of the driver’s seat wide open from when the couple climbed out. The windshield was cracked, and the front windows were shattered. The car’s body was dented, showing how strong the collision must have been.

Not The First Time That Drivers Fled The Scene

While fleeing the scene may seem immoral, this isn’t the first time a driver’s first instinct is to run.

For instance, on 24 November 2022, a driver crashed her car into a bus stop at River Valley Road and fled the scene before police could arrive. She left her car and the wrecked bus stop behind with the excuse that she went to seek medical attention.

On 30 November 2022, a white Mercedes killed a cyclist on Adam Road in a hit-and-run accident. The driver also immediately fled the scene.

However, with Singapore being such a small island, the authorities were able to track down the drivers in both cases very quickly, which is what will probably happen for this young couple as well.
