Drivers and cyclists are like North and South Korea: they really do not get along.
Perhaps it’s because they have to share the same road space, but drivers and cyclists have had their fair share of squabbles over the years, and some even made the news.
Most of the time, it just seems like drivers are being overly aggressive towards cyclists.
However, a recent incident along East Coast Park Service Road suggests otherwise.
Cyclist Jams Breaks & Curses At Driver After Cutting His Lane
A Facebook user, who goes by the name Chapo Quantico, wrote a post about his unpleasant encounter with two cyclists at East Coast Park Service Road on 30 Aug 2020.
He published the post on 31 Aug, and also included dashcam footage that showed exactly what had happened.
Basically, he had been driving behind the pair of cyclists for about four minutes, and he said that they were ‘cycling dangerously in two lines’.
When the car in front of one of the cyclists took a left turn to enter McDonald’s, the cyclist then cut in front of his car without checking his blind spot.
Quantico immediately honked at him and also had to hit his brakes, which shocked his children who were sitting at the back of the car.
The cyclist can then be seen jamming his brakes in front of the car, then turning around to say something.
Spewed Vulgarities For 11 Seconds In The Middle Of A Busy Road
According to Quantico, he was “pouring profanities cursing and swearing”. This goes on for about 11 seconds, where the cyclist continues to stand there and talk while making aggressive hand gestures.
He even brought out the middle finger.
Meanwhile, you can see a line of cars on the opposite lane, presumedly waiting to turn in.
Quantico rolled down his window to tell the man that he should have stopped instead of cutting into his lane, but he eventually decided that there was no point in having a conversation with him since he was just “spill[ing] vulgarities from his mouth”.
The cyclist then rode off, after turning around one more time to look at the car.
His Friend Cycles Back Against The Flow of Traffic
Quantico decided to go ahead, thinking that the encounter was over.
However, he was met with the sight of the cyclist’s friend, who rode against the flow of traffic to come and stop in front of his car.
It’s unclear why he did that, but I’m guessing it was to provide moral support for his friend and stop the car from “escaping”.
He also made a gesture with his left hand to Quantico.
Eventually, the guy turned around once his friend caught up to him, and both of them continued to ride ahead.
The dashcam footage video ends soon after that, with Quantico turning right onto Still Road South.

In his post, he described the cyclist as Caucasian and urged people who viewed it to help him to identify the individual to make light of what he has done.
It seems like this dispute might continue after he figures out who the guy is.
Previously, the Singapore Cycling Federation (SCF) had asked for its members to be courteous on the roads or cycling privileges might be taken away.
I guess these two cyclists didn’t get the memo.
Thankfully, nothing happened like the lorry vs cyclist incident where one had to go to jail and spend a couple of weeks there, including 3 extra days due to what could possibly be an “administrative” error.
