What happens when you knock someone down?
One of three things can happen.
One, you feel remorse and decided to help in any way you can.

Or two, you try to run but stopped because people kept you from escaping.
And finally, you can try to run, get stopped and escape anyway while injuring another person.
Now, if it’s the first two things that happen, we probably won’t be writing about you. But if it’s the last one, here’s why you shouldn’t do it.
Man Collided With Pedestrian
According to reports, the incident happened at Clementi on 9 June 2018 at 7.30 am.
a man on his e-scooter and a full-face helmet rode his e-scooter across a crowded pedestrian bridge.
He tried to squeeze between two pedestrians but unfortunately, he misjudged the space and knocked down a 72-year-old man, Mr Cheong.
People around immediately stopped the rider and stopped him from riding off.
According to eye-witnesses, he was travelling pretty fast.

Man Saw An Opportunity For Escape
So the police were called and kind-hearted strangers made sure he wasn’t going anywhere.
Good game, well-played, right?
Nope.
29-year-old Soh Zhi Wen, who was keeping an eye on the rider, got distracted for a moment. And as it turns out, a moment was all the rider needed.
He immediately fled on his e-scooter.

Soh tried to grab onto his handle of his e-scooter but she missed. The handle hit her right wrist, causing her to stumble and knock her face against the side of the bridge.
The rider reportedly went to work as usual.
Meet The Man Behind The Mask
Netizens managed to identify the man behind the mask and gave his particulars to the daughter of Mr Cheong.
This is Victor Chin, the e-scooter rider who decided to ride across a crowded bridge and pull off a daring escape.
He surrendered himself to the police at Clementi Police Division at 10.30 pm on the same day.

He had also paid for the medical fees for Mr Cheong, who was sent to National University Hospital (NUH) for treatment.
Mr Cheong suffered abrasions on his elbow and was given three days MC.
Punishment
Chin’s lawyer had asked for a fine and said that his client is remorseful and has sold his e-scooter.
However, District Judge Shaiffudin Saruwan sentenced him to two weeks jail, although Chin’s request to defer the sentence was granted.
Moral of the story? If you’ve done something wrong, own up to it.
Who knows? If he hadn’t tried to escape, and beg for forgiveness, the incident might not have escalated to such a huge degree.

Agree?
And if you ride an e-scooter, better watch out because now, LTA is rolling out new functions on its app that’ll allow people to report you anytime, any day.
