The world is a tough place.
Sometimes when you just wanna go about your day, do normal stuff, go back and rest, and then suddenly something just slaps you in the face.
Because that’s how life rolls.

It’s not a kind place and sometimes kindness might not pay.
And it’s hard to not be a cynical person when there are scammers like this couple:
Elderly Couple Standing By Road Shoulder, Old Lady With Injured Leg
The original post was in Mandarin, so here’s the translation:
“Yesterday at Seri kembangan Equine park, Aeon, when going out Max highway I saw this couple at the road waving their hands. So I saw their motor(bike) was spoilt, and they had bandages and stuff, probably injured or something.
Like any kind samaritan, the first instinct was to try to help.
“Wanting to help, I went down my car to ask what’s going on. He said they were knocked by someone in an accident, and now still owes them RM100 (~S$32.90). So I asked him where is he from, he said Penang. I asked where is he going, and I can fetch his motor and him home.”
While the story looked plausible, on talking more to the couple he realised something was fishy.
Couple Insisted On A Certain Form Of Help
“But he said no need, he can just call a lorry and requires RM150 (~S$49.40). He was insistent on wanting to get money, but I said I don’t have. So he asked if I have RM20 (~S$6.58). Here’s when I thought it’s suspicious. I can fetch him, why is there a need to call for a lorry”

A New Character Appears To Reveal The Scam
“Just then, someone stopped nearby and the couple went over to his side. I went over to see what they were talking about.”
It was revealed that the couple had been running the same story and scam on unsuspecting drivers on the road, and the other person had run into them previously.
“As it turns out, both of them were scammers. The other person said they told him the same story last week, and had given them RM100 (~S$32.90). Today, the motor is spoiled again and they want to take more money. This is when I knew these people just wanted to cheat money. I’m so dulan I just took a photo. But they got angry and wanted to hit me.
“Later, the other person told me to just ignore them lah. It was then I just walked away. I hope everybody can be careful when they see them. Don’t be scammed.”
Comments Reveal Other Locations This Scam Was Found
Other comments had found the couple at Salak South, near Serdang Hospital, the junction to enter to Lakefields, Sungai Besi, at Kuchai Lama.

And while not the same couple, similar scams are also all over place, like at Mid Valley.
Some Commenters Actually Got Scammed, But…
One guy, in particular, gave them an engine.
There are also others that got scammed, though not necessarily by the same couple.
And with scammers like this rampant, it really makes it hard for people to sympathise with others.

“Thanks for sharing…These people killed everybody’s sympathy”
“Agree! Because of this, even kindness requires hesitation. Don’t know if it’s real or a scammer”
“Ya, even those who really want to help also don’t dare to help anymore”
One comment in particular questions if this isn’t a larger problem.
Translation:
“If they had a choice, they wouldn’t be scammers willingly. They are so old and it’s really pitiful. The Malaysian government really should take a lookout for old people like this who don’t have the economic ability, at least allow them to enjoy their old age.”

As for this Goody Feed writer…
I really do want to believe in the good of people, and I’d prefer not to doubt people until they prove otherwise.
That said, do take care, people.
It’s a sad kind of dilemma to have.
