These days, it’s easy to blame autocowreck- I mean, autocorrect for your blunders.
To be frank, we’ve no idea if the whole “Marry Christmas” fiasco was caused by an unfortunate autocorrect or something.
However, considering how so many netizens are using autocorrect as an excuse for the mistake, let’s, uh, just assume that’s the case.
Anyway, if you have no idea what I’m talking about, just take a look at this image here:
Did you see it? No?
How about now?
Ho ho ho, Marry Christmas!
With Christmas as your husband/wife, you’ll be showered with gifts 365 days a year!
Anyway, Singapore is not alone in this blunder. Allow me to tell you more.
On 24 Dec, Malaysia Airports was being flamed by netizens for the spelling errors on their Christmas greeting banners.
Every now and then, we see some netizens (Singaporeans and Malaysians alike) blasting the English proficiency of Malaysia, as evident from the screenshot.
And then, in less than a day, “Marry Christmas” happened in Singapore.
…A case of the pot calling the kettle black, eh?
No matter what, mistakes were clearly made.
“We hope this has not marred the festivities for any of our commuters,” said Miss Tammy Tan, SBS Transit’s senior vice-president for corporate communications.
The operators are also “very sorry for the error in spelling”.
Personally, I don’t really find the entire incident to be that big a deal. Well, it is definitely embarrassing without a doubt.
Perhaps, due to the existence of social media, things tend to get blown out of proportions very easily these days. Oh right, to some people, there’s also the matter of “national pride” too (Oh well).
While the incidents have also raised concerns regarding the English proficiency for both Singapore and Malaysia, let’s leave that discussion for another time, shall we? I’m pretty sure you guys don’t wanna hear(read) me going on and on about it.
Since you’re here, why not watch a video about a guy who lodged a Police report here in Singapore because he was friendzoned? Seriously. Here, watch it and do remember to share it (and also subscribe to Goody Feed YouTube channel)!
