Remember the ingenious way a secondary school in Singapore decides to implement safe distancing at their canteen?
Well, turns out they’re not the only ones doing that.
Some Foodcourts Will Have Clear Plastic Shields
According to CNA, some foodcourts in Singapore will be doing the same thing too.
In Phase 2, people can eat outside again but safe-distancing measures must be observed.
Which essentially means F&B outlets are going to have the number of seats halved.
However, not all is lost because a trial is being run to see if plastic screens are adequate in protecting people when they eat.
More than 500 tables at selected Kopitiam and Food Junction outlets, as well as canteens for transport workers, will be equipped with clear plastic shields.
This trial is funded by the Temasek Foundation in partnership with CapitaLand and the National Transport Workers’ Union (NTWU).
The separators are treated with a self-disinfecting antimicrobial coating that can last for three months.
F&B operators can mess around with the layout of the separator to see which configuration works best for them.
Mostly cater to couples? Have two per seat.
More of a place where people eat alone (NTWU canteen)? Screens at every seat.
Temasek Foundation is planning to work with Ya Kun next to see what works for smaller cafes.
Sounds like great news, right? But sharp-eyed netizens online spotted something out of the ordinary.

Let’s go over it together.
There’s food…
There are diners…
Wait a moment.
Diners who are wearing masks while eating?!

Netizens were amused by the photo used by CNA on their Facebook post:
One pointed out the next essential invention:
Although if they could talk, the guys in the picture could’ve argued that the food is untouched because they were chatting first and would get to eating later.
Either that or point out that they’re not the only ones to do this:
“Remember this Minister and her impressive fireless wok-frying?”
