Foreign Workers Helped Rescue Car At Waterway Point While S’poreans Took Video

Foreign workers are, to put it bluntly, not really well-liked in Singapore.

Sure, they take care of the manual labour – stuff that no real Singaporean would ever even contemplate touching – but that’s where the appreciation line stops.

The average Singaporean woman thinks that they are a bunch of horndogs that would lust after any woman in a heartbeat, while their guy counterparts, ironically, scorn foreign workers for performing such ‘dirty’ work.

But then you can’t really fault them. If I can be honest about it, I would say it’s a product of the last generation’s teachings.

Now, not that I’m firing shots at our beloved elders, but I just wanna clarify that sometimes, traditional mindsets do not always provide the best solution.

If you’re wondering why I’m rambling so much about how foreign workers are unappreciated, just check out the posts below.

You’ll get where I’m coming from.

Just yesterday, on 21 September 2017, Facebook user Garett Alphonsus Lim posted this series of photos and video on Facebook

The post went viral, garnering over 4.8K likes and 3.4K shares overnight.

What happened?

On September 21, a car inadvertently turned down a flight of stairs at Waterway point and ended up stranded.

Guess who came to the rescue?

Our own Singapore foreign workers.

Once they caught sight of the helpless vehicle, they came together in an attempt to push it back up the stairs.

In fact, they even took out their phones…to call for help from their friends.

And as you can see in the video, they did it.

Guess who was taking the video?

Your friendly neighbourhood Singaporean.

Reactions

Netizens seemed to appreciate our unsung heroes’ act, and they showed it in three different styles.

The sincere form of appreciation.

And the ‘let’s follow it up with case examples’ form of appreciation.

Classy.

Thoughts

You know, Singaporeans can really be buggers sometimes.

While the foreign workers were gathering manpower to push the car, Singaporeans just stood at the side like.

You could always go and… I don’t know… help?

Typical Singaporeans, really.

I bet you’re thinking: who’s this asshole that keeps insulting his own country behind a computer screen?

Before you start a public manhunt for me, I would like to clarify that in no way am I better than any of you guys.

If I was there, I would probably be like, “Hey, there are foreign workers here. We can just chill here, and enjoy the show. Let’s get a popcorn while at it too.”

But you see, that’s the thing. We got so used to them doing all our dirty work.

Yet we still discriminate against them. Okay, fine. Most of us, at least.

Sure, there’s the occasional black sheep that does some really monstrous stuff, but to that, I ask you: which country doesn’t have black sheep?

Maybe we should all just give them a break. No need to give them love yet, but perhaps we can start by accepting them first.

I, for one, think that they deserve it, at the very least.

That and I really think we should really stop this unhealthy STOMP-ing shit going around.

Edit: It turns out that the car belongs to the boss of the foreign workers so netizens are now less impressed with what the foreign workers did.

Though it should be noted that the foreign workers could easily just call for the tow truck and stand around laughing at the boss.

But then again, that’s just me.

Maybe the workers were really forced into helping the person because he’s the boss. #JustPuttingItOutThere
