Cats seem to take precedence over just about anything, whether it’s homework, video games or in this case…

An interesting storage area where you’re allowed to take home second-hand items.

Just goes to show the immovable and endlessly appealing charisma of a feline, really.

Jurong Void Deck Offers Free Second-Hand Items for Others to Bring Home; Neitzens are more Interested in the Cat instead

On 8 April 2021, Reddit user WhatsHappeningApril shared an interesting find with the community of the social news site.

Apparently, someone has set up a storage area of sorts on the ground floor of a HDB estate in Jurong.

“Interesting concept at Jurong void deck,” the caption states.

In an accompanying photo, we’re treated to a yellow storage entity on wheels, with multiple slots for item insertion. Numerous items line the middle compartment as a notice on the right reads, “Free to take”.

There’s also a QR code with the tagline: “Browse or list pre-loved items on nukampung’s #PASAR”.

The setup seems to be created by the brand nukampung.

Despite the array of items on display, however, Netizens seem to be more interested in something that’s not on the shelf:

The cat lying on the ground.

One, for instance, asked whether the cat was fair game as well.

Another conceded that the cat was probably the hottest property in the image.

One, however, suggested that the cat was actually the guardian of the ‘store’.

Meanwhile, some appreciated the gesture.

Though several also expressed disapproval over the sheer space needed.

One notion seems more than likely to occur though.

As they say, it’s just a Singaporean thing.

Nukampung

According to Nukampung’s website, they are a research-based programme from Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) that seeks to “revive the kampung spirit one community at a time”.

Both a campaign and a digital platform, they utilise data analytics and behavioural studies to “envision community spirit in the future of housing in Singapore”.

They have also created an app to let community leaders “reach out to their resident networks”.
