With the rise in accidents on the road as of late, most of us would have heard about the recent accident involving a 24-year-old father-to-be at Gambas Avenue.
And although the accident may have left many of us in shock or mourning, a group of kind-hearted samaritans have stepped up to the plate in terms of helping the man’s family.
Mr Jason Tan, a motorcyclist who was killed in an accident on 10 April, was a foodpanda deliveryman. He had hoped to earn an incentive that required him to fulfil 13 more orders, which was why he went to work on that unfortunate day.

With his passing, he leaves behind his parents, siblings and wife, who is three months pregnant.
His wife, also 24, met him while they were primary school classmates at Fuchun Primary School. A couple for six years, they got married this year on 5 March at HomeTeam NS Bukit Batok.
And while Mr Tan’s family might have wondered how they will be able to support themselves, especially with a little one on the way, there’s something that they can at least take comfort in for now: They’re not doing this alone.
Ray of Hope, a charity platform, launched a fundraiser for Mr Tan’s widow yesterday (12 April), with an end goal of $200,000.
In the description box of the fundraiser, the organisation explained that it has spoken to Mr Jeremy Tan, Jason’s brother.
“He also told us that while there will be some insurance payout, the family is unsure of how much the amount will be,” Ray of Hope wrote.
And it seems like the only ray of hope isn’t coming from the charity platform.
In less than a day, the fundraiser has raised over $94,360 from over 1,600 donors, accomplishing around half of the total goal.

Many of the donations came from anonymous donors, and some also included messages in their donations for the family.
An anonymous donor wrote, “No words can console the heart of loved ones when you lose someone dear to you. I know the pain of losing a sibling at the tender age of 24. It is not fair. But your loved one is still around you, protecting you and looking out for you. I send you love and strength to cope with this numbing grief.”
With the fundraiser still going on, you can choose to donate to the campaign here.

On a more serious note, the police have started investigations with regard to this incident. A 36-year-old male van driver has since been arrested for careless driving causing death.
