Putien, a restaurant in Raffles City Shopping Centre, is a beautifully furnished place with a mix of woodsy and vinyl floorboards, round tables and dark chairs, a well-illuminated high white ceiling with green accents on the walls.
Its glass walls are also so clean and transparent that a woman walked into the glass wall, which immediately resulted in a bloodied lip, and half of her face started swelling later.
The restaurant manager explained that there used to be obstructions in place, but owing to the long holiday, they had been removed temporarily.
Not to make light of the customer’s injuries, but which cleaning company does Putien hire? Because they seriously did a phenomenal job.
Details of the Incident
The incident happened on 1 May, around 3:45pm in the afternoon.
Ms Xu, aged 53, told Shin Min Daily News reporters that it was her first time dining at Putien.
After placing her order, she asked the staff where the restrooms were, and they told her that she just needed to exit the restaurant and take a right turn and she’d find it.
Just as she was walking out of the restaurant, however, she suddenly slammed into a glass pane.
Her lips started bleeding immediately, then half of her face began to swell. She can still feel a lingering ache even though it’s been two days since the accident occurred.
Ms Xu expressed that she hadn’t been using her phone at the time of the incident; she genuinely failed to notice that there was a glass pane there.
“The restaurant manager came over to show concern over my injury instantaneously and suggested that I should go to the clinic next door for a check-up, but I felt that my injury wasn’t serious back then, so I didn’t go,” said Ms Xu.
As an apology, the restaurant gave her a few free dishes, and even gave her a 10% discount on her final bill.
However, what worries Ms Xu is that there might be children and elderly people who might be like her, and accidently slam into the glass wall.
She only hopes that the restaurant can give this issue a serious thought, or at least put up a warning sign to remind the public to be careful.

A Barricade Has Been Set Up to Remind Diners
When the Chinese newspaper reporters went over to recce the site, they noticed that the restaurant has already set up a retractable queue stand in front of the glass pane near the entrance.
They even took a photograph of the corner glass pane to show how clean it was.
When the restaurant manager was interviewed, he stated that there was supposed to be tape reminders in place, but their supplier wasn’t able to meet their order in time due to the extended public holiday.
Putien also mentioned that they would usually place some chairs or baby chairs in front of the glass wall, but the accident happened on a weekend where there were more customers, so they had moved the chairs away.
They never expected that it would cause a diner to accidentally collide with the glass wall, and they are incredibly sorry about it.
“In order to prevent other customers from bumping into the glass, we could only place a retractable queue stand there first that night.”
Better safe than sorry, yes?
