The number of surprising things a Singaporean can wake up to is kinda limited.
I mean, aside from a thunderstorm and your mom flipping you out of your bed, I really can’t think of anything else.
So, imagine the surprise when a Bedok resident woke up to this on her balcony on Monday morning, 11 Dec.
(“Hoo” goes there?)
The owner of the flat, Mrs Goh, said that “She (Mrs Goh’s daughter) mentioned it was making a lot of noise. She thought it was a burglar,” Mrs Goh said.
Mrs Goh was doing her chores when she noticed what she thought to be a “bundle of cotton” on the balcony.
“At first, I got a shock when I saw it – this has never happened,” said Mrs Goh. “Usually, there are small birds flying in and they will be twittering away. This is the first time such a big bird flew into our balcony…We’ve lived here for more than 30 years.”
Here, have a look at this fluffy cuteness for yourselves.

After reaching out to Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (ACRES) for help, she was told that the owl will most likely leave come night time.
However, should it still remain on the balcony by then, ACRES would send its night crew down to help.
The Owl eventually left the balcony at 9 pm, 11 Dec.
“(It happened) very fast. It was still on a potted plant, and suddenly it flapped its wings and flew down,” Mrs Goh said.
“After that, I called ACRES to update them. So it’s a very happy ending to our 14-hour affair with the owl.”
That being said, “uncommon” animal sightings seem to be more common these days. From a group of crocodiles to the family of wild boars, and python, we seem to get at least one sighting a week nowadays.
Perhaps it was due to nearby deforestation (I don’t think the crocodiles are affected that much, but yeah) that these animals are looking for a new habitat to live in.
In other words, please be kind to these animals and not do anything to them if you happen to spot them! I would say that Mrs Goh did a pretty good job, allowing the owl to stay on her balcony until night time.
Do contact relevant authorities and organizations like ACRES and don’t try to take matters into your own hands.
D’aww, look at those innocent eyes. You wouldn’t want to hurt it now, would ya?
