It’s been 11 days since cinemas are allowed to reopen again.
And within these eleven days, not one, but two different cinemas were entered into the Ministry of Health’s list as places where Covid-19 cases visited in their infectious period.
The first is Hall 6 at FilmGarde in Bugis+.
And the second was reported just yesterday.
Another Cinema in List of Places Infectious COVID-19 Case Has Been, This Time Golden Village
On 23 Jul 2020, MOH added 15 new places to their list.
Jurong Point made an appearance (again), West Mall as well, and Vivocity has two new entries within the span of a day.
VivoCity Fairprice has an entry on its own with a Covid-19 case visiting on 14 Jul 2020 from 4pm to 4.55pm.
And on 15 Jul, both the Golden Village cinema and the Soup Restaurant within VivoCity had Covid-19 cases visit between 4.10pm and 6.50pm.
Sembawang Community Club was also a new entry but don’t worry, it was stated on MOH’s list that the visit happened on 14 Jul 2020 (7.45pm to 8.20pm), not during or after 20 Jul where more people visited for NDP funpack collection.
You can view the full list of new entries below:

More of a visual learner? CNA has this microsite that shows an interactive visual map of the list and it’s quite a scary sight:
But you’re here to find out if more Golden Village. Don’t worry, we’ve all the deets here.
The cinema has since updated us about the situation, saying that they’ve cancelled all “upcoming shows in the affected hall, and activated our professional NEA-listed cleaning and disinfecting agency to carry out thorough deep cleansing and sanitisation of the hall and all general access areas.”
They then posted images of people in white cleaning the hall as if the zombies from Train to Busan: Peninsula have jumped off the screen:
Yes, even the toilet:
They said, “As of this morning, our premises at VivoCity has undergone 3 rounds of extensive cleaning, including one by our NEA-listed disinfecting agency.
“Hall 4 is good as new, along with all common areas like the lobby, the box office, automated ticket machines and toilets. Prior to opening today, we will also be carrying out our daily comprehensive cleaning protocol and topping up of hand sanitizers at various touch points in the cinema.
“Please rest assured that cinema halls are sanitized after every session, and we will continue to do thorough cleaning periodically throughout the day.”
So yes, please go ahead and watch your Train to Busan: Peninsula.
Monitor Your Health Carefully:
MOH also said that if you’re in the same area within the same timeframe as the Covid-19 patients, you should monitor your own health for the next 14 days.
Should you find yourself developing symptoms for acute respiratory infections, you should see a doctor immediately.
As of July 2020, all individuals, 13 years old and above, will be required to undergo the swab test when they visit a doctor for ARI for the first time, although healthcare professionals have come out to say that the test is “uncomfortable, but relatively painless“.
As for the places that were identified, MOH says that people do not need to avoid them.
The National Environment Agency (NEA) will engage the operators to do a thorough cleaning and disinfection of the affected premises before it is open to the public again.
All close contacts have been identified, MOH added.
You Can Still Go Watch Movie
If you’ve read through the intro carefully, you’d think that we’re telling you to lock yourself at home.
No, we’re not.
You can go ahead and catch a movie if you want to; in fact, we have two guides on the movies you can catch during this period.
A list of ‘old’ movies that are worth catching in the cinema again:
And upcoming movies you can keep a lookout for
But, do it safely.
Cinemas in Singapore has to put into place safe-distancing measures before they can reopen for business.
Safe-distancing measures which were proven to work quite effectively, seeing as how two hairdressers with Covid-19 managed not to spread the virus to all of their clients when they practised safe-distancing and mask-wearing.
Here are some basic rules to keep in mind:
- Keep your mask on unless you’re eating or drinking
- Keep the 1-metre safe-distancing from other groups and when queuing up
- Ensure that you’re feeling well before you go out to enjoy yourself
- Don’t watch a movie with 24 other friends and separate yourselves into groups of 5, intermixing throughout the movie.
In short, don’t be a douchebag or our movie-experience might just get cancelled.
After all, if a circuit breaker has to be brought back, the Task Force promised that they’ll try their best to avoid a “broad-based” CB and use a targetted one instead.
Which means, they might just decide movie-watching is too dangerous during Covid-19 and shut it down again.
