Here’s something most of you probably don’t know.
Did you know that if you’re late by 5 minutes for a Grab ride, you have to pay S$3?
And it doesn’t stop there either – it accumulates over every 5 minutes, so you essentially have to pay S$6 for 10 minutes, and S$9 for 15 minutes.
In case you can’t read it, it says: additional waiting time ($3 for every 5 minutes)
Most of you, after reading this clause, would have forked the money over to the driver. No matter how reluctantly or angrily.
But not this woman. Oh no, not her.
Woman Refused To Pay Late Charge Despite Being Late
STOMPer J, a Grab driver, had picked up a customer from the Marina Bay Financial Centre (MBFC).
She ended up being 5 minutes late, and J informed her that there would be a penalty charge. She remained quiet for the entire journey.
When they got to their destination at Fernvale Road, the passenger straight up refused to pay the extra $3, and the two started arguing heatedly.
Then, she actually called the police.
Wait, what? Wasn’t she in the wrong here? Why is she the one calling the Police?
She refused to believe there was such a clause in Grab
The passenger then asked J to display the exact penalty clause on the Grab App, to which he coolly followed through.
Even then, she steadfastly refused to pay, claiming that she was ignorant about the policy.
Contrary to popular belief, lady, ignorance doesn’t mean innocence.
She berated J and slammed the car door, before resting on a bench on the ground floor of a block.
Police officers soon arrived at around 7pm and started questioning J and the passenger.
She then started to cry.
Why are you the one crying? Shouldn’t it be the poor driver? All he wanted was to do his job and claim the late fee (which you are obviously guilty of), and now he has to watch you cry.
J, a quite tolerant man, said that it wasn’t about the money, and she was just wasting his time.
The officers told him that had she harmed the car, he could actually file a police report.
In the end, poor J didn’t get his S$3, and he warned all private-hire drivers to watch out for such a passenger.
So to help out all the poor Grab drivers out there, yes, there is a late charge.
