From time to time, you’d hear news about foreign workers in Singapore. Like yesterday, where a company was found to have ill-treated its foreign workers.

You can read about that here.

Today, foreign workers made the news again. But this time, it’s for something good.

But before that, let’s look at an ugly scene.

Netizens’ Responses To Rude ‘GV Lady’ Who Put Legs On Chairs Shows How Self-Entitled S’poreans Are

Okay, I’d admit it. Singaporeans are very self-entitled. Almost like strawberries and durians, actually.

What would you do if you see this happening?

Image: STOMP

Ignore it? Or maybe, if you’re feeling brave enough, you’d go forward and tell her not to do that. But that’s not what this person did.

She took a picture and posted it online instead.

She questioned if Singapore is really turning into a graceless society, she wondered if watching movies at home is the safest option nowadays.

In response, Golden Village (GV) said they’ve ran several “cinema etiquette campaigns through pre-show screen ads” to remind customers to be considerate to other people in the cinema.

They also advised that if customers see such a thing again, they should voice out, either to the person themselves or the staff at the cinema.

Netizens commented that the cinema should do more to prevent such an act from happening.

Like how a kid who failed his exams would blame it on his teachers instead of himself. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Heartwarming Scene of Foreign Workers Sheltering Commuters Made Some Netizens Angry AF

You can’t help but appreciate them. Not only do they do jobs that no Singaporean would ever want to do, they do such sweet gestures from time to time.

Image: straitstimes.com

Aww.

On 28 May 2018, Facebook user Winson Heng posted about his experience at the bus stop opposite Block 323B Sengkang East Way at around 10 am.

When he alighted from the bus, he expected to be drenched in the rain. However, three foreign workers were holding up umbrellas, sheltering the boarding and alighting passengers from the rain.

He believed that the workers were on their break time as the heavy rain must have halted the construction.

Instead of resting like their friends, they are using their rest time to help Singaporeans. He claimed that the pair sheltered commuters at the bus stop for hours.

So, with such a heartwarming scene, why are the netizens angry?

Image: mymemes.biz

It’s because of their fellow Singaporeans’ attitude.

Private investigators on Facebook tried to lip-read and observe the videos provided by Mr Heng closely.

And they discovered something. People didn’t say thank you.

Agree and agree, but don’t give up just yet. I’m pretty sure there are plenty more people who actually thanked the workers before rushing off.

Mr Heng himself bought 1.5L bottles of 100 Plus for the workers, who “appeared paiseh”.

Moral of the story: when people do nice things for you, always thank them because, well, you’d never know who’s watching ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That and they deserve that much at least, no?

Alleged Mastermind Behind Viral JB Petrol Station Murder Arrested in Thailand

On 17 Dec 2017, a murder at a petrol station in Johor Bahru shocked Singaporeans and Malaysians alike.

The victim parked at the Shell station in Taman Pelangi and was checking his tyre when a white BMW pulled up.

He was dragged forcibly to to the BMW but struggled too much to be forced in. One of the four men stabbed the victim in the left chest before leaving him on the ground.

They threw what looked like a firecracker at the victim before driving off. Then, the white BMW circled around and ran him over twice before making their escape.

On 30 May, it was reported that the alleged mastermind behind the attack was arrested by a team of Thai police officers.

The Malaysian authorities have requested for help from Thailand in capturing the suspects. The Royal Malaysian Police believed that several suspects had fled to Thailand.

The alleged mastermind is currently facing extradition back to Malaysia to face the law.

M’sia Government Sets Up Avenue For M’sians To Donate Money

Want to know what a country that works together with its people is like? It’s probably Malaysia right now.

Where the government and the people are working together to solve the country’s problems.

Image: straitstimes.com

If you remember, a Malaysian set up a crowdfunding exercise for Malaysians to donate some money towards paying the national debt.

Lawmakers had told Malaysians not to donate first. They’ll wait to hear from the Cabinet before telling the citizens what to do.

And now, they’ve done something. By setting up a fund called Tabung Harapan, or the Hope Fund.

The fund was set up so that the money donated by patriotic Malaysians can reach the Finance Ministry, PM Mahathir said.

After the Malaysian government revealed that Malaysia has a national debt of RM 1 trillion, Malaysians have expressed their willingness to contribute to the country.

And if you think they’re the first country to do something like this, it isn’t. Thais and South Koreans also did the same thing during the Asian Crisis back in 1998.

Nice.

Self-Entitled Dude Complained Not Getting Served Champagne, Gets Laughed At Instead

Image: mothership.sg

A Premium Economy Class flier took to Facebook to berate Singapore Airlines (SIA) over their bad service standard.

He claimed that he was not served champagne on his flight, even when the SIA website said he will be.

So naturally, being the service-oriented airline that it is, they had to clarify on the issue.

And it turns out that he didn’t ask for it. Instead, he expected the drink to be served to him immediately.

He even went into the fine print (ah, it’s always so fun to read strawberries’ arguments).

Image: mothership.sg

Unfortunately for him, not everyone agrees with his views.

Glad to see that playing the victim’s card isn’t going to cut it on the Internet anymore.
