Halloween, while traditionally celebrated abroad, has slowly made its way to this Asia.
After all, there’s just something about scaring the living daylights out of someone that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Some people have taken this a little too far, though, like one man in Japan who dressed up as The Joker this year and attacked 17 people on the train.
But for the rest of us, Halloween gives us an opportunity to get dressed as something silly and weird, which, on any other day of the year, would draw strange looks on the street.
While the pandemic has dampened celebrations somewhat, nothing is going to stop young boys and girls from cosplaying as their favorite characters.
And to the delight of those living in Bukit Batok, a competition was held for the best-dressed resident.
Bukit Batok Held Halloween Costume Competition
Towards the end of October, the Bukit Batok Zone 12 Residents’ Network announced a Halloween competition on their Facebook account.
All residents had to do was put on their spookiest costume and submit photos which other residents could vote on by liking them.
In less than two weeks, around 50 entries were submitted, mostly of kids, in freaky costumes.
So, who were the winners?
Characters included Squid Game’s Seong and Pennywise
The Bukit Batok Zone 12 Residents’ Network announced the top 10 winners in a follow-up post on Tuesday (2 Nov), and you might be surprised at how scary some of these kids are.
Let’s go through some of them, shall we?
You can’t have a Halloween competition without at least one kid dressed as a pumpkin, can you? Instead of sending shivers down our spines, this adorable kid won quite a few hearts with his pumpkin costume.
One kid even dressed up as the protagonist from Squid Game with his sister as a tiny version of that creepy doll that just loves to sing:
Now, be honest: if you saw this next kid outside your house, would you need a change of pants?
For those lucky enough not to know, this is Pennywise, the terrifying clown from It who is most definitely not amusing. Rumour has it that all children within a 2 km radius of this little clown mysteriously disappeared on 31 October this year.
You’d think this costume would surely be the winner, right? Well, beating this kid out by 100 votes was this girl below, who must have prompted several 999 calls in her block that day:
*shivers*
In its post, Bukit Batok Zone 12 Residents’ Network said it has been distributing prizes to the top 10 winners, but emphasised that everyone is a winner.
