To recap, a guy posted this image on Facebook when he was given a Stay-Home Notice as he had just come back from Myanmar:

People weren’t happy and immediately called him out online.
And now, the police have called him out.
Police Investigating Guy Who Brags About Eating in Hawker Centre While in SHN
Today, during a Parliament sitting, Home Affairs and Law Minister K. Shanmugam specifically pointed out this case.
He said that he has “asked for that case to be investigated.”
In other words, Internet 1: Humblebragger 0.
Bak Kut Teh Lover: “I Thought It Started The Next Day”
The guy has responded to the media, and just like what he said in his Facebook post, he claimed that he thought it should have started the next day.
He had gone home after landing in the airport, then headed out to buy some groceries and dinner, whereby he had to take a bus though he wore a mask.
So far, the authorities haven’t contacted him yet.

And it turns out that this bak kut teh lover might not be the only one who’s flouted the rules, though he might be the only one who flexed his rebellious streak online.
There Are Worst Cases
According to Mr Shanmugam, he has seen cases of returning travellers who went out to eat local food, held parties at home, interacted with friends and even visited clubs and bars.
Suddenly that bak kut teh lover seems like a saint, but I digress.
The worst part is that many of those have come back from the UK, a high-risk area.
And the minister isn’t having any of it.

Tell the Men and Women in Blue
Mr Shanmugam said that many “Singaporeans get upset when they hear about this…and we are trying to verify some of these messages of stay-home notices being flouted.”
So how can you help?
Well, tell the men or women in blue.
The minister added, “And if anyone, members of public, you have information about such behaviour, please give it to the police. We will follow up, and we cannot allow such behaviour.”
We’ll all thank you for that.

As of time of writing, more than 21,000 SHNs have been issued, and the authorities are implementing all sorts of ways, including surprise visits, to ensure that people stay at home.
Anyone who’s returning from the UK or US from today (25 March) 11:59pm onwards will be issued a special SHN, whereby they’ll serve their SHN in a hotel instead of his or her house. The person would be transported directly from the airport to the hotel, too.
And lest you didn’t know, the penalty for flouting the rules is rather high: you can face prosecution under Section 21A of the Infectious Diseases Act (IDA) and may be fined up to S$10,000, jailed up to six months or both.
Definitely not worth it for a bowl of bak kut teh.
