Headless Body of Socialite Abby Choi Found With Parts of Her Body Parts Cooked

When thinking about socialites, most of us would probably admire their glamorous lifestyles and creature comforts. After all, who wouldn’t love to live in luxury?

Some could even envy these socialites in death since the wealthy can afford large-scale funerals when they pass on.

But we’re pretty sure this last part does not apply to those who know what happened to Ms Abby Choi.

Here’s why.

Socialite Found Dismembered in Hong Kong House

Ms Choi was recently found dead in a village house in Tai Po, a suburb located in Hong Kong. She had been reported missing last Tuesday after failing to pick up her daughter from school.

Ms Choi was a 28-year-old socialite.

Deaths are generally not sufficient to raise eyebrows, given that it is the inevitable end for all humans.

But it is the gruesome state she was found in that sends shivers down our spines.

Ms Choi was headless and dismembered when discovered by the Hong Kong police.

According to Superintendent Alan Chung Nga Lun, who works for the Kowloon West regional crime unit and spoke with SCMP, two legs belonging to a woman were found inside a refrigerator within the village house.

The police also discovered cooked body parts and two pots of soup containing human tissue. There was also minced human tissue on the floor of the village house.

At the time of writing this article, the head, torso and hands of Ms Choi were still missing. Police believe the body parts were disposed of and are searching for the missing parts.

The crime scene, the ground-floor unit of a three-storey house, had been converted into a makeshift butcher shop. The police found weapons such as an electric saw and a meat grinder within the home.

Ex-husband and Some of His Family Members Were Arrested and May Be Involved With Her Death

Who could be behind this bone-chilling murder and mutilation of Ms Choi?

It appears that Ms Choi’s ex-husband and some of his family members could be the masterminds behind her death.

Ms Choi’s former husband was freshly arrested near the Tung Chung waterfront earlier today. He is reportedly known as Alex Kwong by the media in Hong Kong and could have been waiting for transport to flee Hong Kong by sea when the police arrested him.

His arrest follows closely in the wake of the arrest of his parents, Ms Choi’s former parents-in-law, and his elder brother. These family members are believed to be between 31 and 65 years old.

The former couple and other individuals arrested were allegedly entangled in a dispute regarding Ms Choi’s management of some high-value properties in Hong Kong. Ms Choi wanted to sell a property in Ho Man Tin, an upmarket residential area in central Kowloon, but her ex-husband’s family who lived in that property were against it. The property was estimated to be worth tens of millions of Hong Kong dollars.

In particular, the police have pinpointed Ms Choi’s former father-in-law as the prime suspect in Ms Choi’s murder because the unit she was found in was rented by Mr Kwong’s father earlier this month. The ex-father-in-law used to work as a policeman and is now facing murder charges (alongside other arrested members of his family).

Ms Choi’s death joins the ranks of other gruesome murders in Hong Kong, including that by a university professor who murdered his wife and stuffed her body in a suitcase, leaving her remains to rot.

Tussles over assets are not uncommon amongst the ultra-rich (Ms Choi’s family fortune could be around HK$100 million, which is approximately S$17.2 million). Singapore’s billionaire socialite Kim Lim recently went through a nasty divorce involving a tough division of assets which she described as “traumatic”.

We’re sure glad that not all rich people’s disagreements end in death. Perhaps being rich has its own set of problems.
