An apology post on social media rarely puts to bed the issue at hand.
Typically, a response to the apology follows, after which a response to the response to the apology is posted.
Which brings us to the Dee Kosh scandal.
Over the last few days, several netizens on social media have claimed that Dee Kosh, whose real name is Darryl Ian Koshy, had asked them for nude pictures and sexual favours in the past.
Dee Kosh initially denied the allegations, but later admitted that there was some “truth” to them, and apologised for his actions.
Now, another YouTuber is apologising, only this time it’s for being in a video with Dee Kosh.
Fellow YouTuber Hirzi Now Apologises for Video He Did With Dee Kosh in 2018 to Roast Another Influencer
Social media influencer Hirzi Zulkiflie has issued an apology to influencer and published writer Nicole Choo for two YouTube videos he made with Dee Kosh back in 2018.
In the videos, Hirzi and Dee Kosh made fun of a poetry book Choo published that year, titled “Nineteen.
Choo’s publisher, Eliza Teoh from Bubbly Books, managed to get the video removed as it had infringed on the book’s copyright, but Dee Kosh and Hirzi posted a mock apology video soon after.
In the subsequent video, Teoh claims the pair continued to incite “hatred” against Choo and her company Bubbly Books, and that Dee Kosh had also posted the company’s profile on Twitter.
Then, Teoh was featured in Dee Kosh’s Top 10 idiots of the year 2018 video, which is not exaclty a video you want to be in.
For his part in the videos, Hirzi apologised to Choo, saying he takes full responsibility for his “hurtful remarks”.
Hirzi said he “cringed” when he first watched the video but swallowed his misgivings because it was well-received.
He admits he could have apologised to Choo after the first video was taken down, but chose to take part in the mock apology instead.
The YouTuber urged his fans to apologise to Choo if they had joined him in his attack against her, and has reached out to Dee Kosh to remove the second mock apology video as well.
“I am sorry Nicole and for hurting you in the process of what I now understand is a tasteless attempt at comedy and ultimately cyberbullying”, he wrote.
A Response to Teoh’s Post
You may be wondering though: why is Hirzi suddenly apologising two years after making those videos?
Well, because of the sexual harassment allegations levelled against Dee Kosh, of course.
Sometime earlier, Teoh had shared a lengthy post on Facebook, saying the allegations against Dee Kosh had reminded her of how he used to harass her and Choo.
Teoh, who referred to Dee Kosh as a “disgusting person” throughout the post, slammed him and Hirzi for insulting Choo’s looks, using sexual slurs, and degrading her.
“Nicole was only 19 then. He was 30. To this day, I don’t know why he, together with another grown man called Hirzi, would dress up as women and mock a teenage girl, using sexual slurs, just for having the audacity to launch a book.”
According to Teoh, many netizens had launched malicious verbal attacks against Choo after the videos were posted, some of which included violent threats.
In fact, the diatribe against Choo was so strong that she went overseas for a few months to stay with a friend because she felt “physically afraid” in Singapore.
Towards the end of her post, Teoh addressed the allegations of sexual misconduct that have recently been aimed at Dee Kosh.
“I feel angry that he (allegedly) victimised so many. When a person is a celebrity, he is in a position to coerce sexual favours and make disgusting demands. Because victims are overwhelmed by his fame, or attracted to the idea of working in this company, they give in.”
Hirzi “Shell-Shocked” By Dee Kosh Allegations
Hirzi responded to the allegations made against his fellow YouTuber too, saying he was “shell-shocked” by the claims.

He said he will ensure that Dee Kosh is held to account, even though he was conflicted about the whole thing, being Dee Kosh’s friend.
He also expressed sympathy for the victims: “My heart goes out to all of you and I hope for your healing too”.
