The cancellation of Running Man has left many people bewildered and most importantly, irate: after all, it all sort of started from the sudden dismissal of Kim Jong Kook and Song Ji Hyo, who both weren’t involved in the decision.
All the members had kept silent (except Gary who “protested” by deleting all his Instagram images about Running Man except one of him, Kim Jong Kook and Song Ji Hyo together), but rumours had it that they all gathered together to discuss the issue in private.
But now, some insiders have revealed what was in his mind thus far.
He was told to leave, and therefore did not need to come back for the episodes leading to the last episode in the last week of February 2017. However, he changed his mind and decided to come back instead, not angry at what has happened so far.
According to Allkpop, a source from MyDaily said this: “Kim Jong Kook talked to the ‘Running Man’ members and staff without his manager…After talking to the members, he decided to change his mind. It had to do with his loyalty to the members who he spent the last 7 years with.”
To add on, he wasn’t disappointed at how things had turned out. “There was trouble with the rocky process, but personally, he (Kim Jong Kook) isn’t offended…He thinks it’s not really the staffs’ fault either.”
So far, while low ratings have been the key factor in the cancellation, how the producers have handled the transition from Season 1 to Season 2 (and now, to no season) have been the talking point.
In any case, it’s going to be extremely awkward for the next few episodes, and I would say, rather touching, too. Remember how sad it was when Song Joongki and Gary left?
