Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us have made exaggerated comparisons to illustrated our frustration and displeasure with our new way of living.

My house had become a prison cell during the circuit breaker!

If they closed bubble tea stores for another month I would have died!

If dining in is banned once more I might as well never eat again!

Some people, however, like former Progress Singapore Party (PSP) member Brad Bowyer, went a little too far and compared the new COVID-19 rules to the Holocaust.

On Wednesday (11 Aug), Mr Bowyer resigned from his post, in response to the strong online backlash.

But this hasn’t appeased everyone.

Israeli Embassy Spoke Out After Ex-PSP Member’s FB Post Comparing COVID-19 Rules With Holocaust

The Israeli Embassy took to Facebook yesterday (12 Aug) to denounce the social media posts which it said trivialised the Holocaust.

“The Embassy of Israel in Singapore strongly condemns recent posts circulating on social media likening the vaccination campaign and other vaccine related issues to the Holocaust,” it wrote.

“The Holocaust was a genocide perpetrated by the Nazi regime to slaughter 6 million innocent Jews and comparing the obvious health benefits of vaccinations that have benefited billions around the world is not only in bad taste, but is also Holocaust Distortion by downplaying the horrors of the Holocaust.”

“We urge others to think twice before re-sharing such content – There is no equal for the tragedies that occurred during the Holocaust,” it added.

Wait, so how bad exactly was this post?

Well, see for yourself.

Compared Differentiated Measures for Vaccinated & Unvaccinated People to Holocaust

The post which caused the uproar is believed to be one shared by Mr Bowyer, an opposition politician formerly with the PSP.

In one post on Tuesday (10 Aug), Mr Bowyer shared this picture with the caption: “Singapore is now us and them… God help our nation!”

As you can see, Mr Bowyer believed the new, differentiated measures for vaccinated and unvaccinated residents is so divisive that it’s comparable to the political strategies utilised by Nazi Germany before they mass murdered six million Jews in the Holocaust.

He’s seemingly unconvinced about the efficacy of vaccines, questioning whether they’re still “experimental”.

He also thinks that unvaccinated people have become “second class citizens in their own country”.

All because they cannot eat chicken rice at a fancy place?

Unsurprisingly, his controversial post triggered a torrent of angry remarks from outraged netizens.

He eventually gave in to the backlash, announcing his resignation from PSP as his views were “diverging” from the party’s.
