T-ara’s Jiyeon and South Korean baseball star Hwang Jae-gyun have filed for divorce, ending their marriage of nearly two years. The couple’s decision to part ways was confirmed by Jiyeon’s legal representative in a statement released on 5 October.
Speculation about the state of Jiyeon and Hwang’s marriage began back in June when a baseball commentator hinted on radio that Hwang was getting a divorce.
At the time, Jiyeon’s agency denied the rumors.
However, the speculation persisted when fans noticed that Jiyeon was not wearing her wedding ring during a YouTube show in September, further fueling the rumors about marital issues.
Why the Divorce?
According to the statement quoted by South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency, Jiyeon and Hwang have filed for divorce mediation at the Seoul Family Court after mutually agreeing to end their marriage.
The couple, who had already been living separately, reportedly struggled to resolve their differences, ultimately leading to their decision to divorce.
Following the announcement, Jiyeon deleted photos of the couple from her Instagram account.
Jiyeon, 31, and Hwang, 37, first went public with their relationship in February 2022, much to the delight of their fans, and married in December that same year.
