Remember how Meteor Garden took the world by storm and its fever hit Singapore shores? Everyone chased the most iconic live-action television adaptation of the Japanese shojo manga, Boys Over Flowers.
Missing one episode then felt like death as it meant scouring for recaps written in magazines.
As the boys vibed with one another on-screen, we couldn’t help but assume that was the case behind the scenes as well.
But alas, we are proven wrong as Ken Chu, who played the likable playboy member Ximen in the series, steps out to say that even life-changing stardom can’t guarantee life-long friendship.
Chu Reveals No Friendship was Present Within F4
In an interview held by the Gentlemen’s Quarterly with Chu, Chu revealed that he was not one to have many friends even when he was part of F4.
He replied “No” when the interviewer had referred to the other members of F4 as possible close friends—these members were Jerry Yan, Vanness Wu, and Vic Chou. Fans were shocked by Chu’s reveal as many assumed they would have remained as friends even after the group disbanded in 2009.
Chu later clarified that he never felt that they were bonded even after filming the television series and him being a part of the band.
The once-celebrity and now-YouTuber remarks that the only friend he has in his life right now is his wife, Vivien Han Wenwen, who is a Chinese actress.

Used To Having No Friends
Chu explained that he felt that having few friends was better and that he was used to losing contacts as he moved around a lot as a child.
The fast rise to stardom with F4 had also given pressure to Chu. This was why Chu was not surprised when they ended up disbanding later on.
This just goes to show that a life without fame can be a good life, but fame without a life is no life at all.
Oh, by the way, do you you know that Ken Chu studied in Boon Lay Secondary School?
