You may have heard the news back on 30 June. A terrifying accident occurred on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway near Bentong.
A Lamborghini Huracan crashed at the side of the road and erupted into flames. Courageous passers-by pulled a female passenger from the burning wreck, but the driver sadly perished in the fire before firefighters could arrive.
However, the family and friends of the deceased Datuk Fung Swee Yen were determined to give him a memorable send-off.
11 Supercars In Funeral of Lamborghini Crash Victim
They held the funeral for the 62-year-old at 10:30 am on 4 July. As it turned out, Mr Fung was part of a supercar club for Singapore and Malaysia.
Members of the club drove their luxury sports vehicles to the funeral of the Lamborghini crash victim.
A Rolls-Royce led the procession out of the funeral home, followed by 11 other supercars. There were five Lamborghinis, 2 Ferraris, 2 Porsches, a Mercedes-Benz, and a Nissan GT-R, a stacked row of luxury vehicles the average person can only dream of.
Nearly a hundred mourners attended as well, following the hearse on foot to see the deceased off.
The weather appeared to want to fit the mood, as grey clouds filled the sky and a drizzle fell onto the procession, creating a gloomy and cold atmosphere.
While certainly a tragic day for all involved, they put together a funeral as they could, filling the procession with what Mr Fung loved.
Funerals to Pay Tributes to Loved Ones
Funerals hold fast in public perception as solemn and serious events, one defined by formality as a show of respect.
However, in recent years, there have been more and more funerals deviating from tradition to better commemorate the person who passed away.
In 2022, the Mandai Crematorium and Columbarium Complex was invaded by members of the Empire from the Star Wars movies, complete with Darth Vader.
Evidently, the deceased was a hardcore fan of the sci-fi classic and this was the perfect way to honour his memory.
The same year, Singapore’s ballroom dancing legend Sunny Low passed away at 82. At his funeral, a Cha Cha session broke out led by his wife, one last dance to commemorate him as the curtains closed on his time here on Earth.
After all, if you looked down from Heaven (or up from Hell if you were naughty), would you rather see your loved ones solemnly sobbing, or paying tribute to your life and the things you loved?
