In Singapore, creeps typically roam the streets, trains, or in NUS looking for victims.

So, when you’re in the comfort of your own home, living with loved ones, you should feel secure enough to let your guard down and be assured of your safety.

After all, if you can’t trust members of your own family, who can you trust?

Man Repeatedly Molested Wife’s Sister while She was Sleeping

Well, no one, as it turns out.

In 2017, a 28-year-old man, his wife, and her sister, 25, all stayed in the same flat. The wife’s sister would sleep on a couch in the living room if their grandparents stayed overnight.

One day in July 2019, at 6.30am, the man was getting ready for work when he walked past his sleeping sister-in-law on the couch.

Before leaving for work, he touched her breast once, but the woman did not wake up.

Two months later, on 22 Sept, the man arrived home at around 4am and saw the victim asleep on the couch again.

He molested her again but she remained asleep. He then headed to the bedroom which he shared with his wife before returning to the living room to touch the victim again.

The 25-year-old still hadn’t woken up at this point and he went back to his room.

But that wasn’t enough for him.

The man returned once again to the living room and walked about for around three minutes, before sliding his hand into the victim’s shirt to molest her.

This time, she woke up, and he quickly fled the room.

Confused, the woman looked through the contents of the CCTV camera in the living room later that day and discovered what had been going on.

Shocked, she called her parents, who lived in the same flat and said she dare not return home without them.

She then lodged a police report at Choa Chu Kang Neighbourhood Police Centre.

Sentenced to 14 Months’ Jail

In court, the man’s lawyer asked for nine months’ jail as his client had a heart issue due to a birth defect.

“He could drop dead anytime,” the lawyer said.

But the judge wasn’t buying it.

The 28-year-old Singaporean was sentenced to 14 months’ jail on Thursday (25 March) after pleading guilty to three counts of outrage of modesty.

Two other such charges were taken into consideration for sentencing.

As District Judge Marvin Bay noted, the man’s acts were certainly premeditated.

“The accused had, after all, been her brother-in-law, and she would have presumed herself to be safe in his house,” he said.
