When someone you love or have a crush on rejects you, it can be painful, but we can’t exactly force others to like or love us, can we?
That’s why we typically accept it and move on with our lives, eventually getting over the person and finding someone else who we’ll like even more.
There’s a small minority of rejected lovers, however, that go a slightly different route when they don’t get what they want.
Nope, I’m not talking about falling to your knees and begging them to be with you; I’m talking about threatening to throw them down an HDB flat so both of you can “die together”.
Man Threatens to Throw Ex-Girlfriend Down HDB Flat After She Rejected Him
The violent lover in our story is Ganesan Palanisamy, a 50-year-old man.
What makes his actions all the more incomprehensible is that he had asked his ex-girlfriend to get back together with him 30 years after they last dated.
He had just been released from prison in 2017 when he looked her up and got together with her.
Of course, by this time she had already gotten married and had a 21-year-old son.
Wait, you mean you didn’t wait three decades for me on the off chance that I’d want you back? How could you!?
The woman said she wasn’t interested and said she only wanted to be friends, but the word “no” didn’t seem to exist in Ganesan’s dictionary, along with words like “understanding” and “acceptance”.
So he continued to pursue her and was rejected every time.
Then, on the night of 26 Aug 2019, the 50-year-old went to the victim’s house, which was on the 11th floor of an HDB block.
When the woman emerged from the lift, Ganesan immediately grabbed her and lifted her, threatening to throw her down the building, after which he’d jump down too so they could “die together”.
Fortunately, the woman managed to struggle out of Ganesan’s grasp by holding on to the railing, but couldn’t use her phone to call for help as Ganesan had snatched it from her and destroyed it.
It’s only when the woman’s son came out of her flat that Ganesan fled the scene.
Also Tried to Stab Her in Her House
Threatening to kill someone once is enough, if you ask most people.
But Ganesan returned the next year in July and pushed the woman into her flat just as she opened the door.
He then tied her up and tried to stab her with a knife.
Ganesan later closed all the windows and turned on the gas stove, threatening that both the woman and her son would die if she didn’t get back together with him.
Just to appease him, the woman said she agreed, and Ganesan turned off the stove soon after.
Sentenced to 4 Years Imprisonment
For his crimes, Ganesan was sentenced to four years, 16 months, and two weeks in prison.
He was handed 13 charges when arrested, including criminal intimidation, committing mischief, and trespassing, as well as unrelated traffic offences.
In addition to his jail sentence, he received a S$1,000 fine for his traffic offences, and had his driving licence revoked for 30 months.
