Man Who Bought Then Threw Masks at Safe-Distancing Officer Jailed for 4 Weeks
On 26 Apr 2020 at around 5.10pm, a 29-year-old enforcement officer and a 46-year-old female safe distancing ambassador were on patrol around Block 18 Upper Boon Keng Road.
They saw the accused, 30-year-old Muhammad Adimin Kemton, exit from a shop with two friends.
During that time, Adimin was the only one who wasn’t wearing a mask.
When approached, he told them he would wear his friend’s mask but the officer replied that it would mean his friend wouldn’t be wearing a mask.
Furious, he started shouting profanities at the duo while stomping back into the shop to purchase a pack of disposable masks.
End of story, right?
He goes home and makes sure to put that pack of masks to good use and the officer and ambassador walk away, happy that they’ve helped protect Singapore once again.
Started Throwing Words & Stuff
Stomping back out of the shop, he brandished a single mask in the officer’s face.
He then charged towards the safe distancing ambassador and threw a used popsicle stick at the lady, hitting her left arm.
Not done with his tantrum, he picked up the stick and threw it at her once again.
He also threw his pack of disposable masks at the officer.
Throughout the incident, he was scolding them with vulgarities.
Adimin then left the area with his friends, shouting all the time.
Meanwhile, bystanders came forward to check up on the officer and ambassador, pointing out the direction which Adimin and friends left in.
Sentenced To Four-Week Jail
For using abusive language on a public servant, Adimin could have been jailed up to a year, fined up to $5,000 or both.
For using criminal force on a public servant, he could’ve been jailed for up to 4 years, fined, or both.
Adimin was given a four-week jail term for his offences.
He pleaded guilty to:
- 1 count of using vulgarities on the officer
- 1 count of using criminal force on the officer
The officer is considered as a public servant.
Three other charges were taken into consideration during his sentencing:
- 1 count of using vulgarities on the ambassador
- 1 count of using criminal force on the ambassador
- Failing to wear a mask over nose and mouth while outside of his residence
Adimin said that his children have been under foster care for three years and he “had a lot of problems”.
He requested to be given time to arrange for his wife’s care before he commences his jail term.
