McDonald’s Singapore is on a roll: in recent years, they’ve come out with new items that seemed to be conjured up by a five-year-old, and the shocker is that most of them work.
Think Nasi Lemak Burger, the burger that everyone hates but still buys.
Think Loaded Salted Egg Yolk Fries, the fries that are sour and have a smell as strong as a durian.

There’s even Durian McFlurry.

But if there’s one lesson they’ve ought to learn, it’s that turning a popular dish into fast-food is akin to Google Translate: the result’s going to be a mess even if your intentions are goody.
And the second lesson?
Simplicity always works.
Instead of giving us salted egg yolk fries that taste like sour egg yolk fries, just give us fries with chilli.
Like what McDonald’s Malaysia is doing.
Spicy McShaker Fries
We’ll just let the pictures do the talking first.
Still here in Singapore, but have hopped into your car to brave the Causeway jam?

Then here’s more info.
Over in Malaysia, you can upgrade your normal fries to a Spicy McShaker fries for RM1 (~S$0.33).
This is apparently a new item, and it has gone viral in Malaysia. The organs below my chest tell me that with it being so popular in Malaysia, it’ll land on our shore very soon.
Since my pay only allows me to go from Woodlands to Bukit Batok daily, I can’t go up north to try it, so I’d have to rely on reviews online to determine if it’s worth the calories.
According to The Rakyat Post, the powder is rather irritating to the nose (reminds me of any chilli powder), so you’d better ensure that they don’t fly out of the package when you tear the packaging.

Apparently, it feels like those curry Maggi Mee powder, but it’s “spicy but flavourful and packs quite a savoury punch.”
OMG I can taste it just by reading this.
McDonald’s Malaysia also added the Sweet Chilli Fish Burger which we’ve had in Singapore a while back.
If you’ve a thing for McDonald’s fries and “spicy” is your middle name, now might be a good time to head north.
