One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.

Those were the words said by Neil Armstrong, the first man to step onto the moon in history.

Years later, technology has become so advanced, and space missions to the moon have become more than possible.

As man tries to delve deeper into the mystery of the universe, we have to rely on technology to help us document our findings.

According to The Straits Times, the moon will be getting its first mobile phone network as soon as next year.

Now, you may be thinking, why on earth  moon do we need a mobile phone network on the moon itself?

Well, the source didn’t state why, but I’d guess that being connected to home is better than losing all connections in space.

Just imagine how scary that is.

This mission will be held responsible by Vodafone Germany, Nokia and Audi.

Nokia was appointed by Vodafone to be its technology partner to develop a “space-grade network”.

It will weigh less than a bag of sugar, apparently.

“This project involves a radically innovative approach to the development of mobile network infrastructure,” said Vodafone Germany chief executive Hannes Ametsreiter.

You might be wondering why a 4G network was prefered over the “better” 5G network.

One executive involved said that this is due to the next generation networks still being in testing and trial stage.

They are “not stable enough” to ensure that they function properly from the moon.

Meanwhile, the 4G network will enable HD streaming from the moon all the way back to earth.

Now that anyone can go to the moon (provided that you’re a millionaire), maybe Instagramming on the moon might be a reality in just a few years’ time!
