Cash cow—I mean, well-loved—Gong Cha’s comeback is no longer a secret, but the secret on who is bringing it back, or if it intends to come back without selling its franchise, is now revealed.
So, recently, there has been speculation that Gong Cha is brought back by Mr Bean.
Not this Mr Bean.
This Mr Bean.
Turns out that the information is incorrect. Well, partially incorrect.
Mr Bean Group has clarified that they were not involved in the relaunch of Gong Cha in Singapore. The rumours surfaced as the director of the new Gong Cha is Mr Kang Puay Seng, one of the co-founders of Mr Bean and an ex-managing director of the group.
He has since left Mr Bean in 2015.
Despite not having the resources of Mr Bean, Puay Seng has been a savvy businessman and has proven to build a business from scratch.
Mr Bean started out as a hawker stall in People’s Park Food Centre, and in order to gain more customers, he and his co-founder went around the area to distribute coupons for the newly established stall then.
Ever since late last month, Gong Cha Singapore’s Facebook Page has suddenly become active, leading to speculation that it’s coming back real soon.
The number of “Likes” has also increased exponentially, from 7K a week back to over 10k now.
Now, let’s see if it’s coming back before or after National Day.
