Netizens Are, Of Course, Not Happy That Hawker Cleaners Use Same Cloth to Wipe Tables & Trays

Coffeeshops are god’s gift to Singaporeans; for 10 bucks you can get a plate of chicken rice, a plate of carrot cake and even a drink to boot.

I am sure that we all go there for the tasty food and not for the ambience, that’s why I try my best to da bao and eat in the comfort of my home.

One customer, Mr Chen, had a very unpleasant experience at Kebun Baru Food Centre, situated in Ang Mo Kio.

Like most singaporeans—not happy, complain

According to Mr Chen, he caught a whiff of a “sour” stench, Lianhe Wanbao reported.

He used to visit the place twice a week, but after that incident, he did not continue his visits.

However, he decided to give the place a second chance (or maybe he just gave in to his cravings) so he visited the coffee shop last month.

To his dismay, he experienced the same thing—a pungent smell.

He started to observe the cleaners on duty.

According to him, the cleaners used the same cloth to wipe the dirty tables and the tray.
To makes things even more gross, they also used soiled tissues to cleans the tray.

This is why the tray smelt like—in Mr Chen’s words—perspiration or someone who had not bathed for days.

Stomp mentioned that reporters also visited the hawker centre—this is the only kind of investigative journalism that will ever happen in Singapore.

The reporters found some trays that had the pungent smell and some had sauces and rice grains stuck on them (but isn’t this common?).

They also saw cleaners having two cloths but would only use one cloth to wipe both tables and tray.

Netizens gave their two cents (as always)

Most of them shared the same sentiment as Mr Chen.

While some don’t share the same thoughts as Mr Chen

Some thought Mr Chen was prissy.

Some might say the cleaners are being efficient while some might say that is gross AF.

What do you think?

Are Singaporeans too fussy or is it a legit health violation?

Maybe it is time for them to retire and start implementing robots to do the dirty work.
