Next Week, You Can Rent an Electric Car for About $20 an Hour

Hi y’all, it’s me again! Remember when I was talking about car sharing last week?

Yeah, that was back in November. It’s December now! Hence, starting next Tuesday (12 Dec), the first fleet of electric cars by BlueSG will finally hit the roads!

BlueSG has also said that 80 vehicles will be rolled out initially and they can be booked via the BlueSG app.

Which means, you can download their app from the App Store and Google Play starting from 5 Dec (That’s today, in case you don’t know)!

Hmm, 80 vehicles ain’t a lot TBH. I can imagine enthusiastic users fighting over the vehicles already. Please don’t get into a fight because of this; I don’t wanna write another article about people fighting on the streets.

A total of 1000 electric cars will be deployed in stages. I hope things would be better by then!

Now, here comes the important info. The charges.

The premium yearly membership plan costs $15 a month, and subscribers are charged $0.33 per minute (Minimum 15 mins).

The weekly membership plan has no recurring fee. Instead, the users will have to pay $0.50 per minute (Minimum 15 minutes).

Under the premium yearly membership plan, priced at S$15 a month, subscribers are charged S$0.33 per minute for a minimum booking of 15 minutes.

Hmm, allow me to do some calculations here.

Let’s say I drive the electric car for around 25 minutes (time taken for me to go home).

The trip will cost only $8.25! Around $8.75 if you were to consider the subscription fee! That’s definitely way cheaper than the $16 I was usually charged for a cab for my trip home!

The first 30 charging stations (120 charging points) will be located in a range of parking lots.

  • 18 stations will be located in housing estates such as Bishan and Punggol
  • 10 stations will be located in city centre and cityfringes
  • 2 stations will be located within industrial and commercial estates in one-north and Science Park

By 2020, the company plans to own a total of 1,000 electric vehicles and 2,000 charging points.

That being said, I might consider signing up for a premium membership once the electric cars are more common around Singapore (With all the charging stations up and running, of course).

Oh and, can we please be civilized people this time around and not do anything stupid to the vehicles? No more Long Kang offerings, please. I don’t want to see people dig an electric car out of a Long Kang.

Since you’re here, why not watch a video about an NTU student who went all out to impress his crush, only to end up in…tragedy? Here, watch it and do remember to share it (and also subscribe to Goody Feed YouTube channel)!
