Back in the days, you only hear about raging fires on the dance floor.

These days, it seems like the SCDF got their work cut out for them.

5 People Taken to Hospital After Fire Broke Out in North Bridge Road HDB Block

A fire broke out last night (12 June) in a seventh-floor unit HDB at North Bridge Road.

The SCDF was alerted to the blaze at Block 8 at 10.15 pm. The fire was extinguished using a water jet.

Five people were transported to the hospital and about 120 people from the sixth to tenth floors of the block were evacuated.

Of the five, 4 were taken to Singapore General Hospital (SGH) while 1 was sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Those that suffered from smoke inhalation or serious burn injuries will be taken to the Burn Centre at SGH.

“However, if their condition is too unstable, they will be conveyed to the nearest Ministry of Health-designated hospital,” the spokesperson added.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Other blazing incidents

Recently, another fire broke up in a flat at Bukit Batok. The owner of the flat was unconscious when the fire went ablaze.

Luckily, his neighbour realised the severity of the situation and rush into the smoke-filled house with just a wet cloth covering his nose and mouth to drag him out.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

In another unfortunate incident, a fire broke out in the lift taking the life of a 20-year-old. It was believed that the cause of the fire was originated from the victim’s Personal Mobility Device (PMD).

Aside from the fiery red flames engulfing residential areas, this rage of terror could be seen in wet markets as well.

On 17 May, a wet market located at Block 511 Canberra Road was the site of a fire.

The fire was quickly contained after the Singapore Civil Defence Force was promptly notified by residents and arrived at the scene. Fortunately, no one was on-site during the fire, hence there were no injury or casualties.

Images on the Facebook post, however, show heavy damage done to the wet market: only the non-combustible steel frames remain on some storefronts, while charred and collapsed pipes, steel beams, and destroyed produce could be seen everywhere.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. You can read the full article here.

With everything seemed so easily combustible, we have to ensure that we do not cause any unwanted fires. Like setting the leaves in our backyard on fire.

In the event of a fire, the SCDF advises the public to call 995 for assistance as soon as it is judged to be out of control. For common kitchen fires, it recommends that a dry powder fire extinguisher be kept accessible at all times, and urges the public not to leave cooking unattended.
