Man Caught in NTUC FairPrice Opening Boxes of Kiwi to Press & Reassemble Them

You know how some shops in Singapore has signs saying, Once Broken, Considered Sold or Do Not Touch?

Well, turns out, maybe it’s a good idea for supermarkets to carry them as well.

Man Caught in NTUC FairPrice Opening Boxes of Kiwi to Press & Reassemble Them

On 5 Dec 2021, unhappy Facebook user Evelyn Ng uploaded a 12-second video onto Facebook Page Complaint Singapore.

The video was filmed at the NTUC FairPrice outlet at Choa Chu Kang Lot 1 and shows a man opening boxes of Kiwi fruits.

According to Ng’s caption, the man was pressing the fruits and transferring them between boxes.

Presumedly in a bid to assemble the most perfect box of kiwi fruits to bring home.

To Raise Awareness Among Consumers

AsiaOne managed to catch up with the Ng regarding the incident.

According to her, the incident took place on 4 Dec 2021 at around 7pm; she was there to look for fruits as well.

As for the objective of publishing the video on social media, Ng claims she wants to raise awareness among consumers, especially during this period.

“The purpose of publishing the video is to raise awareness among the consumers that everyone is supposed to do their part, especially during this period where Covid-19 still exists.

“Everyone wants to purchase fruits that are in good condition and this can be done if all of us do our part by avoiding such [an] unethical act.”

Netizens’ Reaction

As of the time of writing, her post has 109 shares and 108 comments.

The general consensus was that the uncle shouldn’t have done what he did, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic:

Some felt, however, that the supermarket could’ve done more to stop such people:

Some also questioned why Ng took video and uploaded it instead of stopping him:

One user whose mother allegedly works at NTUC FairPrice took the opportunity to highlight the difficulties staff has in trying to prevent such incidents:

The only way to stop this, the user said, is for fellow customers to stop such actions.

Of course, you can always choose to go the banana route if you’re very worried:
