If you ever wondered who stays behind to watch the credits for movies, here’s one kind of person: someone who actually worked on the thing.
And then if you ever wondered why those pesky teenagers are so loud and excited when it’s just some shit moving, here’s a possible reason: the person who actually worked on the thing is pretty excited.
Depressing Inspiring news: while I’m wasting fantastically utilising the golden years of my youth writing for Goody Feed, a 20 years old NYP graduate has accomplished much more than my life by being involved in Avengers: Endgame.
To make it even more depressing inspiring, Akshya Rameshkkumar was also involved in Bumblebee, Aquaman, Captain Marvel, for a total of 4 movies.
Just ask, and you can do it
Sometimes, all you need to do is ask. It’s like that time where a guy just approached me, asking if I can “give him S$5 because he is poor”. And then I gave it to him.
That guy also looked a little bit like one of those guys on the “beware of scammer” ads, but that’s beside the point.
Akshya just emailed Hollywood asking for an internship as a graduate of Nanyang Polytechnic’s diploma in Motion Graphics & Broadcast Design, and then she got it.
In her words, “I emailed Cantina Creative for an internship opportunity during my second year in polytechnic. After a Skype interview, they told me I was successful. It felt so unreal!”
And just like that, she travelled to Los Angeles in June 2018 to start a six-month internship.
Finding an interest Since 10 years old
When I was 10 years old, I thought I had superpowers because I was playing with some rocks and realised those rocks became squishy when I touched them.
I must be able to manipulate rock!
Turns out those were rabbit shit.
While I was wondering about the application of my new found rabbit-shit-bender powers, Akshya at 10 years old grew an interest for design and looking at ads.
“Looking at ads kind of got my interest going at age 10. Also, my hobbies like playing the piano, ice-skating and watching movies, seem to play a part in my passion for design.”
Some say a certain Goody Feed writer can now only be found hiding in corners.
So pro meh?
In case you think she’s just a coffee girl while interning, Akshya actually got to design, animate, model and composite various shots from the various movies.
More specifically, she created the original design assets, part of the illustration, animation, graphical user interface designs and 3D modelling work.
Despite not being a full-time staff.
She wasn’t allowed to reveal exactly what because of a non-disclosure agreement, so there is a possibility that she isn’t contributing that much.
Except… Cantina Creative offered Akshya a full-time position. You can view her portfolio here.
But she rejected the full-time job offer
So most plebeians will just take up the job offer and start leaving the dream, but big minds got bigger dreams. She is taking a while to explore the industry and see what will suit her best.
As for what she is doing, 5 or 6 months after the end of the internship? She’s working in a local company.
“I’m currently working as a motion graphics artist with a local company. I’d love to learn more with them and gain exposure working with different kinds of clients first to see what works best for me.”
Speculation: Maybe we can expect a Doctor Majullah movie in the future?
