This probably wasn’t the news you expected when the words Squid Game reappeared in your life.
In an elaborate game that sets out to kill almost every one of its 456 players, it might have immediately struck viewers as odd when one of the survivors is a seemingly vulnerable old man.
Played by Oh Young-soo, his role as the Old Man (better known as Player 001) was huge in the series.
It is no wonder that after Squid Game’s release, Oh won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries, or Motion Picture Made for Television in 2022—the first South Korean actor to do so.
And that was the last time you heard about Oh… until now.
It’s time to call and apologise to your friends who immediately voiced their suspicions about 001 from Squid Game and his sinister intentions because they were right (maybe even more so than they thought).
Oh Young-soo’s Indictment
Oh Young-soo was indicted with detention by the Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office on the charges of indecent assault.
He is accused of “inappropriately touching” a woman in 2017.
First brought to authorities in December 2021, this case was closed in April 2022 with no charges filed. However, following the victim’s appeal, these allegations are being investigated again.
Throughout investigations, Oh has denied the charges, stating, “I just held her hand to guide the way around the lake. I apologized because she said she wouldn’t make a fuss about it, but it doesn’t mean I admit to the charges.”

What Does This Mean for Squid Game?
Fans of the viral series that took the internet by storm in 2021 are left wondering how this news will affect the next season.
Squid Game was heavily raved about for months after its release, with people dressing up in the iconic pink suits of the guards or attempting to recreate the honeycomb challenge.
With its star-studded cast and intense sequences, Squid Game also garnered international attention and critical acclaim, quickly becoming Netflix’s most-watched series.
Following these sexual misconduct charges, however, it is uncertain how Squid Game will continue with Oh’s character, who plays a major part in the series. After all, 001 was one of the few survivors of the first season, and his character arc is still incomplete.
As of now, his character hasn’t been revealed to come back; instead, Gi-hun (the main character), the Front Man, Gong Yoo and the creepy doll’s boyfriend are confirmed to be in season two.
Tony Leung is also rumoured to be in the next season.
