Passenger Allegedly Refused to Pay Fare, Says He’s ‘Rich’ & Dares Driver to Call Police

Lately there seems to be a lot of people messing with cabbies. After the chicken rice stall owner, it’s barely been a week and already there’s another guy boasting about his own wealth while provoking a taxi driver.

This guy was apparently totally normal throughout the trip, from Golden Mile Complex to 27 Jalan Chermat, until they arrived, and he refused to pay the $15 fare.

He had merely tapped the driver’s hands to signify his “payment”.

When asked to actually pay some real money, the passenger refused, and the cabbie then subsequently refused to let him leave.

The passenger then proceeded to cause a ruckus, yelling at the driver to call the police. So he did. The passenger then peeled off the driver’s ID tag from the windscreen, claiming he was doing so to take it as evidence.

This small part was captured in video.

At that point, the driver, a 62-year-old man, decided to leave the taxi for assistance, and approached 2 passers-by. The 3 of them then tried to persuade the man to just pay the fare and return the tag, and the incident would be forgotten.

Unfortunately, it seems the man hadn’t had enough yet, as he began bragging about how he was an ex-convict, and how he managed to make himself rich, and how that puts him above the law.

Last I checked, owning a multi-million-dollar property does not put anyone above the law.

Eventually, the police came around, and gave him an ultimatum. Pay up, or get charged. Perhaps finally realising that he is, in fact, not above the law, he decided to pay up using NETS. Which he repeatedly failed on purpose by putting in the wrong PIN.

He then took out another card to make the payment successfully.

Unfortunately, there are no laws against being an asshole, as the man smirked at the driver after the incident, stating that he only did all that to waste the driver’s precious working time.

The police officers were still there at that moment.

It pains me to see so many people who don’t seem to understand the basic concept of mutual respect, and the basic building blocks of every civilised society known as not being a dick. We’re not even just talking about taxi drivers here. Everyone deserves some basic respect.
