Some hate it, while others love it.
No fruit is as controversial as the durian, the king of all fruits.
No matter what you think of the fruit, I’m fairly certain we can all agree on this:
“Why durians so expensive one sia?”
Just so you know, I love durians. Although I’m not one of those durian connoisseurs who can distinguish durian cultivars just by the scent, I gotta say I’m pretty good at picking out ripe durians.
Anyway, now that it’s the durian season, durians should be getting cheaper in your neighbourhood market. One of the durian stalls beside my house is selling durians at $5 for one at the moment, and it’s decently sized for its price!
However, if that’s still too expensive for you, why not go durian picking yourself?
Yeap, at Rifle Range Road, there’s a stretch of road known as the “Durian Loop”. In case you’re that dense, yes, you can find durians there!
With close to 200 durian trees around the area, I’m pretty sure you can grab a couple for yourself despite the crowd!
A 57-year-old man claimed that he was able to pick up to 200 durians a day many years ago. However, due to the low fruit yield for the past four years, he has not been visiting the area much.
Just so you know, most of these durians are probably just “Kampong Durians”. For the uninitiated, this refers to durians that do not belong to any specific cultivar(D24, Musang King, Red prawn etc).
However, that’s not to say that the durian wouldn’t taste good! After all, it’s free!
According to zaobao, a good number of people are returning home with a full vehicle’s load of durians. Some people are even hiding durians in the bushes nearby because they couldn’t carry that many at once. Some people are even calling for help, looking for people to help them transport the durian home.
The durian craze sure is real, huh? The last time I went durian picking was at least 5 years ago if my memory serves me well. Perhaps it’s time for me to go again! After all, we can always share them with our family and friends if we pick too many!
Since you’re here, why not watch a video about a guy who lodged a Police report here in Singapore because he was friendzoned? Seriously. Here, watch it and do remember to share it (and also subscribe to Goody Feed YouTube channel)!
