Duo Strangely Set Up Picnic in the Middle of a Park Connector Network at Punggol

The Circuit Breaker last year really showed us how beautiful nature can be. I know this because I’d watched several nature documentaries on Netflix during those two months, not because I’d exercised at parks.

Still, being able to leave your house for leisure has become something of a privilege these days, what with a deadly disease running riot around town.

Exercising outside is now a hobby for many of us, and eating out is a dream.

But with dining in always a thousand cases or so away from being temporarily banned, why not have a picnic in a nice spot that offers scenic views and tranquility?

Yes, I’m talking about a lane at a Park Connector Network (PCN).

Have you ever been walking or jogging along a PCN path next to thick-thighed cyclists and panting runners dripping sweat all over the floor and thought, “Hmm, this would be a lovely place for a picnic,”?

No? Well, I guess it’s just me. Just us three, I mean.

On Friday (22 Oct), pictures of two people having a picnic on a PCN path made the rounds on social media.

They brought their own picnic mat, food, and drinks, and laid everything out on a PCN lane. According to one netizen, their picnic spot was located along a stretch near the Marina Country Club.

Now, ordinarily, I’m not the kind of guy to go around telling people where they should or should not picnic.

But this is a rather unique situation.

As some netizens pointed out, their little alfresco meal presented a danger not just to themselves but to cyclists on the path as well.

One netizen was puzzled as to why they chose the lane when there laid a perfectly good patch of grass right next to them.

However, as another pointed out, the duo was on the lane meant for walking not cycling, so maybe it wasn’t as bad as it seemed.

Some would argue that the duo could easily spot an oncoming cyclist and warn them or duck out of the way, but they laid down on the mat at one point, presumably to stare at the gorgeous daylit sky.

If you were to visit NParks’ website, you’d see that neither picnicking nor lying down is listed as a common activity on a PCN path.

So picnic where you want, by all means, but please try to avoid areas where you could be run over by bicycles, cars, or any vehicle for that matter.
