It’s not often that Singaporeans see a gun in real life, let alone see a gun in use.

It is thus no wonder that a video showing an officer firing at a knife-wielder went viral on social media.

Knife-Wielding Man Charged At Officer, Officer Fired At Man’s Arm

A video on Facebook showed a confrontation between a knife-wielding man and the police, outside Clementi Neighbourhood Police Centre.

The video starts with the man crossing the street with a knife in his hands. The police officers were pointing their firearms at him.

The man then charged at one of the officers, and a gunshot could be heard. The man fell to the ground and the officers then surrounded him.

Police’s Updates Reveals The Whole Story

The police stated that they have arrested a 49-year-old man, a suspect in a case of criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.

They were alerted to a case where a 41-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by the 49-year-old man with a knife, along Block 420A Clementi Avenue 1. This was on 17 February at about 8:40pm.

After the assault, the 49-year-old man boarded a taxi to Clementi Police Division, and was seen holding a knife while standing outside.

The police officers on duty approached the man while he was shouting incoherently. The man also refused to comply when the officers instructed him to drop the knife, and proceeded to charge at an officer.

Since the officer’s life was in danger then, he fired one shot at the man’s left arm with his service revolver. The man was then detained by officers, and was attended to by paramedics.

The knife-wielder suffered a gunshot wound on his left arm, and was conveyed conscious to the hospital. He is currently in stable condition.

Preliminary investigations showed that the two men did not know each other.
