Being active doesn’t mean that you’re safe from disease.
A 53-year-old National University of Singapore (NUS) professor who led an active lifestyle has passed away after a run.
Felt Unwell, Collapsed After Completing Regular Run
On 17 March, Professor Lee went for a run around his estate at about 1pm. When he returned home, he told his family that he was feeling unwell.

He then took a shower and collapsed soon after. The professor passed away en route to the hospital.
Led An Active Lifestyle, Passed From Coronary Artery Disease
In an interview with Lianhe Zaobao, it was revealed that Professor Lee leaves behind his wife and two children.
The family shared that he had no known health issues prior to his death, and led an active lifestyle. He was also a regular cycler who travelled around on his bike.
Despite this, Professor Lee passed away from coronary artery disease, which isn’t what you’d expect from a fit person like him.
Friends, Current and Former Students Mourn His Passing
Professor Lee was a well-loved faculty member at NUS’ Industrial Systems Engineering and Management (ISEM) department, who specialised in maritime-related topics.
He was also the deputy director of the Centre of Excellence in Modelling and Simulation for Next Generation Ports (C4NGP), which studied the optimisation of workflow at ports.
A post by a former student also revealed that Professor Lee was a great talent who doesn’t only teach, but was even part of the founders of the NUS Motorcycle Club and volunteered as a neighbourhood police officer.

In their Facebook post, NUS ISEM also describes Professor Lee as a kind and supportive friend and colleague, as well as an inspiring mentor to his students. He’ll be remembered as an enthusiastic and passionate person, who was always full of energy and generous with his time and thoughts.
Friends and students alike can be seen in the comments, with condolences pouring in. Many students said that he was one of the best lecturers full of enthusiasm, and everyone mourned the loss of a great friend and mentor.
Professor Lee’s funeral will be held at Block 192 Bukit Batok West Ave 6, till 21 March. Friends, family and students who want to pay their respects can secure a visitation slot here.
