Due to the increasingly common presence of COVID-19 cases in the community and the less severe symptoms that come about with most cases, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has become pretty relaxed about home recovery and self-isolation.
As we all know, you don’t even have to visit a doctor if you’ve got a mild case of COVID-19 now.
However, some of us still prefer to see a doctor and do a supervised ART so that the test results can be reflected in our health records.
If you’re one of those people, you might not need to go through the dreaded wait at clinics and risk exposing yourself to COVID-19 (and whatever other illnesses there are) just for an ART anymore.
With the new quick test centres that MOH plans to roll out in the upcoming weeks, you can take a supervised ART at these centres and have the results be recorded in your HealthHub records.
About 50 test centres will be launched, and you can start booking your slots from the end of today (15 February) onwards.
More details will also be released in due time.
Lightens Load of Medical Professionals
Health Minister Ong Ye Kung explained that the introduction of these centres will reduce the workload placed on clinics and General Practitioners (GPs) as they are already seeing a large influx of patients with COVID-19 amongst other conditions.
With the Omicron wave expected to trigger more cases in the community in the upcoming months, the crowd is expected to increase as well. With GPs already facing long queues, the quick test centres are expected to help them with managing that.

The minister also mentioned that people go to GPs for varying reasons, such as to confirm that they have tested positive for COVID-19 and to obtain a medical certificate, or to prove that they have recovered from COVID-19 before being cleared to travel.
However, the quick test centres will not be able to issue MCs to individuals, so if you need an MC, you’ll still need to queue up at the GP for your turn.
