You Can Now Recycle Your Used Bottles & Cans for Free Vouchers or Grab Reward Points

Imagine being able to convert your empty Pokka Peach Tea bottle into a Grab voucher. It seems unfathomable, but that’s exactly what the lucky residents of Jurong will get to experience.

I bet you’re now mourning over all the empty bottles and cans you tossed straight into the trash bin without a second thought. And perhaps regretting not living in Jurong.

Well, it’s not too late to cash in on this sweet deal. Not to say that you should move to the west.

But if you happen to be in the area, don’t just trash your empty drink bottle after you’re done with it—instead, keep a lookout for recycling vending machines in which you can deposit your cans and bottles for free vouchers.

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Your Used Bottles and Cans For Free Vouchers

More vending machines giving out free vouchers in exchange for plastic drink bottles and aluminium cans will be placed in the Jurong area.

For every 40 cans or 25 bottles deposited in these machines, 550 Grab reward points will be awarded, which amounts to $1 off rides or food orders.

But wait—it gets better. Apart from getting discounted rides, recycling may also help you save on your electricity bill.

For every 50 cans or 32 bottles deposited, a $30 voucher by energy supplier Ohm may be received to offset bills.

According to ST, 34-year-old housewife Irene Ng, who lives in Jurong, tried using the machine for the first time at Yuhua food centre.

She was satisfied with the experience, saying that the machine was “very easy to use” and that she would use it again to recycle her items.

The five vending machines are expected to be operational by the end of March.

You will be able to catch them at five locations, including Yuhua food centre, Pioneer Mall and Science Centre Singapore. The other two locations have yet to be announced.

50 Vending Machines Accepting Used Drink Containers Were Rolled Out From Oct 2019-June 2020

The addition of these vending machines is part of an expansion of a project by the National Environment Agency (NEA) and F&N foods, in which 50 vending machines islandwide were installed between October 2019 to June 2020.

For every four drink cans or plastic bottles accepted, one can receive a discount voucher worth 20 cents that may be used at any FairPrice outlet.

The Recycle N Save programme was launched by NEA and F&N after welcome reception from the public of a pilot project that had been taking place in Punggol’s Waterway Point.
