The former Prime Minister Najib Razak may not be staying in a cushy and luxurious prison cell for his 12-year jail term like rumours claim, but he is in good health.
When Najib’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, was asked about her husband’s condition as she was leaving Kuala Lumpur Court Complex, she said, “Datuk Seri is fine, alhamdulillah (Thank God).”
She had arrived at the court complex earlier that day (25 Aug) to attend the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) trial, wearing a pink baju kurung and scarf.
This is the first time she’s come out publicly after Najib started his jail term.
She also thanked everyone who came to court today for showing their support for Najib.
Rosmah herself is facing 12 charges of money laundering involving RM7.09 million and five counts of failure to declare her income to the Inland Revenue Board (IRB).
Where Rosmah embodies composure and ease, the head of Najib’s defence counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah is pure salt.
When the media personnel asked about his client’s condition, he responded, “I can’t say anything… I’m not going to say anything because you twist and turn our words, even in court. Go and find out yourself.”
Prior to this, Najib’s daughter, Nooryana Najwa also refused to comment on her father’s condition when the media questioned her as she was leaving the court complex.

What Happened to Najib & What’s Next
On Tuesday (23 July), Najib’s final appeal was dismissed by the Court of Appeal and was immediately sent to Kajang prison to serve his 12-year-long sentence.
The ex-leader was found guilty of three counts of criminal breach of trust, three counts of money laundering, and one count of abuse of power in July 2020.
Najib’s supporters have already submitted a petition in hopes of obtaining a royal pardon for him.
If it succeeds, this would effectively mean that Najib can walk away from his crimes without having to suffer any consequences.
