Love’s a fickle thing.

On one hand, it could be a really sweet thing, with a plethora of affection that’s best described as ‘the feeling of a lifetime’.

And yet, on the other hand, it could go really awry as well. Partners could pull off revenge farts in the others’ faces, switch out full toilet rolls for empty ones…

And in even more extreme cases… saw off both arms, heads as well and legs.

A sad reality, but that’s what love is.

A dangerous game of life and death.

Russia Professor Confesses To Murder After Woman’s Arms Found In Bag

Always fantasised about dating a wizened old Russian Professor who spews literature like Shakespeare and humps things like Napoleon?

Well, unless your fantasy includes vicious murder as well, you might want to hold onto that thought for just one minute.

According to BBC, a reputable Russian historian has admitted to murdering his lover, after he was discovered in a river with a backpack containing…

A woman’s arms.

According to the news report, Oleg Sokolov, 63, was drunk and had fallen into the river as he attempted to dispose of the body parts.

Police then raided his home in the city of St Petersburg and found the decapitated body of Anastasia Yeshchenko, 24.

He reportedly killed his lover during an argument before sawing off her head, arms and legs.

Admission Of Guilt

In a statement released by his lawyer Alexander Pochuyev to AFP News Agency, Prof Sokolov has admitted his guilt.

He’s also regretting his actions and is now co-operating with investigations.

According to sources, the Napoleon expert (who has received France’s Légion d’Honneur) is believed to have plotted to get rid of the body, before publicly taking his own life while dressed as Napoleon.

Mr Pochuyev has said that Prof Sokolov may have been under stress. The latter has apparently been receiving hospital treatment for hypothermia.

In the early hours before her alleged murder, Anastasia’s brother told RBK Media that she called him in tears, saying the couple had a furious row incited by the professor’s jealousy.

She had been planning to spend the night in a student hostel.

At 01:49 the two conversed again, and Anastasia reportedly told her brother that she was fine.

It was the last anyone heard from her.

Period Costumes

According to several acquaintances, the victim, Ms Yeshchenko, had moved to St Petersburg to study from Krasnodar region in southern Russia and was apparently a postgraduate student at the time of her demise.

“She was quiet, sweet and always the ideal student,” an acquaintance told Ria news agency. “Absolutely everyone knew about their relationship.”

A student of French History, Ms Yeshchenko has co-authored several historical works with Prof Sokolov. Throughout their 3-year-long affair, the couple indulged in wearing period costumes, with the married Prof Sokolov dressing up as Napoleon.

Students have since claimed that Prof Sokolov is viewed as both a talented lecturer who spoke French and did impressions of Napoleon, as well as a “freak” who nicknamed his lover “Josephine” and requested to be addressed as “Sire”.

The Russian Professor has since been erased from a number of honourable name rolls, and his position on the scientific committee of France’s Institute of Social Science, Economics and Politics (Issep) has also been revoked.

“We learn with horror… the atrocious crime of which Oleg Sokolov is guilty,” it said in a statement.
