Think you’ll get a free pass after CB ends on 2 June?

While CB might have ended, it doesn’t mean that the thousands of safe distancing and enforcement officers will all disappear overnight.

They’ll still be around to make sure we follow the rules.

Self-Distancing Ambassadors & Enforcement Officers Will Still Be in Public Even After Circuit Breaker Ends

On 23 May, the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources (MEWR) announced that safe distancing ambassadors (SDAs)and enforcement officers will still be in demand after CB ends.

Right now, 3,000 ambassadors and enforcement officers are deployed daily.

Their plan (for after CB ends) is to maintain the numbers, and adjust accordingly after seeing “the situation on the ground”.

Jobs Creation

The safe distancing ambassadors and enforcement officer positions are also short-term income relief for people affected by the pandemic.

Some of the safe-distancing ambassadors used to be Grab drivers or tour guides who basically have their livelihoods destroyed almost overnight.

Paid up to $2,500 per month, many are worried that they’ll no longer be needed after the Circuit Breaker.

If you’re someone affected by the pandemic and looking for some temporary positions, I’ve got some good news for you:

More SDA & Enforcement Officers Will Be Needed

More than 65 public agencies are involved in enforcement work, MEWR says, and some of them are juggling safe-distancing work together with their regular duties.

Seeing that it takes quite a while for Singapore to reach phase 3, Safe Nation, the authorities are now looking to hire so that the public officers can return, full-time, to their regular duties.

You can find out more about the job scope here.

A Meaningful Job

The job is tough physically.

They can walk up to tens of thousands of steps per shift and, let’s be honest here, they’re pretty disliked by the members of the public.

There’s also a risk involved when dealing with unruly people.

Nonetheless, some SDAs love that their jobs give them a new purpose amidst the Covid-19 outbreak.

They get to do their part in helping Singapore to bring her numbers down and give back to society.

Right now, Singapore is preparing to enter Phase 1 of the gradual reopening of the economy, but that doesn’t mean we can afford to relax.

Because unlike normal situations, we can easily move back into CB if numbers suddenly skyrocket after restrictions are eased.

Meanwhile, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and Enterprise Singapore (ESG) did not reveal about the plan for their SDAs and Enforcement Officers after CB ends.
