On Wednesday (28 Sep), a video of a man pretending that he was hit by a car surfaced on the internet.
To give credit where it’s due, he really tried.
His fall was dynamic and exaggerated; you definitely can’t miss it.

This incident took place on 26 September, around Serangoon.
At the start of the video, the man can be spotted standing at the side of the road.
As the car gets closer to him, it is apparent that he is aiming for the car, because he purposefully runs onto the road.
This is not a case of jaywalking.
After the man gets ‘knocked down’, he stays down for the next 15 seconds.
Allegedly, he even had the cheek to ask for $100 from the driver afterwards, presumably for his medical fees.

Netizens’ Response
Evidently, the driver is not fooled by his act because they decided to share the video with the internet.
The netizens could immediately tell that this was a scam, and a few comments advised the driver to call the Institute of Mental Health (IMH).
Others joked that the driver should have asked for money instead or threatened to call the police for fraud.
In essence, no one blames the driver for this “accident”. In fact, they think the driver should just ignore the man and drive off because he has done nothing wrong.
He did not hit the man; the pretender should be thanking his lucky stars that the driver managed to stop in time because the vehicle could have legitimately rolled over him and crushed a limb or two.

And since the driver has dashcam evidence, they have nothing to fear, even if the man decides to call the police first.
Seriously though, there are all sorts of scams out there, from spin classes to luxury goods, but don’t ever throw yourself in front of moving vehicles.
