Mothers’ Day was full of flowers, love and dedications to mothers, but the occasion was a not-so-joyous one for Sheila Sim who expressed her disappointment in a realistic post.
No Celebrations, No Flowers, No Cards
On 8 May, the 38-year-old actress posted a photo of herself with daughter Layla Woo, coupled with a lengthy caption.

She wrote “no celebrations, no flowers, no cards for me” because her husband had “failed to plan”.
Keeping it real, Sim added that she was “disappointed” because the occasion is the “most meaningful day” for her, even more so than her birthday.
Explaining why she felt that way, Sim wrote, “I worked so hard to be a mother.”
Biggest Gift is Daughter
However, she tried to maintain a positive mindset by reminding herself that her “biggest gift” was her daughter, Layla.
“I’m doing this [because] I love Layla with every bit of my heart, and I shouldn’t have expectations of returns,” Sim added. “But I am only human.”
She then encouraged other mothers who felt the same way as her, saying she understood their frustration and disappointment.

Others commented that they had spent the occasion doing typical “mother duties”, quipping that the day was no different from any other.
Grateful for Wishes
The next day, Sim made a follow-up post.

In it, she thanked her friends, family and strangers for all the wishes. She added that she had read all the woes sent to her with “love and compassion”.
Sim also wrote, “Life and [relationships] alike, is not always a bed of roses. I’m grateful to have followers who appreciates the authenticity albeit it being bitter sometimes. Such is life, isn’t it?”

Sharing the realistic side of her relationship with husband Dean Woo, Sim said some days she loves him more and other days, less.
“Different things just hit different people at different spots. Mother’s Day may not be a big deal for some, but it is for me,” Sim added.
She appealed to people not to judge and instead to read with “kindness and compassion”.
