Hong Kong actor Simon Yam has been hitting the news lately.
First, his daughter made the news with her modelling debut.
And then the major one. You know what I’m talking about.
If you’ve been out of the loop recently and has no idea what I’m talking about, you could catch up here.
You could also watch the video of the incident here.
Pretty insane, right?
He was stabbed in the stomach and slashed in the hand, requiring two operations for his recovery.
If you’re worried about him, fret not.
It seems that his recovery is going smoothly, as he’s just been discharged from the hospital with his right arm still in a sling.
He was also quoted saying, “It will take a bit more time for my hand to recover … as it will take time for nerves to recover. I hope I recover soon and resume a film shooting, which I really enjoy.”
Gotta admire a man who loves his job, right?
The attack had also sparked a discussion on the safety of celebrities during such public events. The famous actor-director Sammo Hung, however, stated that “It is sometimes dangerous for artists to attend these (promotional) events … it is very difficult to prevent an attack.”
Seeing as how the event where this incident took place involved inviting guests up onto the stage, it’d truly be difficult to prevent such an attack.
However, Simon Yam’s company has hired 3 bodyguards for the actor to better protect him.
Now, what about the assailant?
Surprise, surprise.
If a man stabbed me, you can be damn sure I’d chase him down to the ends of hell and press charges.
But Simon Yam is different.
He has no interest in taking any action against his assailant.
According to a statement from his manager, he said, “We do not want to take action. We just want to understand what happened. What made the man snap?”
That’s right. You read correctly.
Not only is he not interested in pressing charges, but he’s also concerned about his attacker’s state of mind.
In case you were wondering, the assailant was diagnosed as a schizophrenic.
If you didn’t know, Schizophrenia is a mental disorder characterised by abnormal behaviour, strange speech, and a decreased ability to understand reality. (Thanks, Wikipedia for the definition)
But still, what kind of a saint is concerned about his own attacker instead of pressing charges?
Simon Yam? More like Saint-mon Yam, am I right?
No? Okay, I’ll show myself out…
